Default How is Federal Halfway house time calculated?

Is there an method to the madness of the amount of time in halfway house??? Some with shorter sentences get 4 to 6 months, others will get nothing..
Any information on why the huge amount difference, or is it just the way it works in the BOP

Halfway house time is based on needs of the offender. It isnít a reward. Actually, itís opposite. The more programming you need, the more HWH time you get.

If you have a stable household, adequate resources, a good support structure at home, you will get less halfway house time. The people that tend to get more halfway house time are the ones that may not have a home or a strong support structure waiting for them on the outside.

Itís important to know that halfway house time isnít an award for good behavior while in prison. To the contrary, Iíve seen people who have a harder time while in prison and get more infractions get more halfway up the time than somebody who did what they were told and never got into trouble.

Remember..BOP...backwards in purpose.

My wife 6 month date was back in August. Blew through those and now Nov is closing in quickly. She started her HWH paperwork all the way back in April. No reasoning behind it.
She's told me some people leaving get weeks notice before leaving and some just get a week.
What sucks is she has kept out of trouble the whole time. No shots. Worked whole time. Took as many classes as possible. Wasn't addicted to alcohol or drugs so she couldn't do RDAP. Still waiting

Ugh! So sorry you're dealing with that! The HWH paperwork has a way of taking forever, the BOP is slow with everything, my ex was suppose to get 6 months in the HWH but barely got half of that, and when he did finally get a date it was with less than a weeks notice! Hang in there, your wife will be out soon!
