Default Hand washing solutions prior to prison visitation - drug sniffer

Is there any cleaning solutions to wash my hands in before visiting a prison? I heard the scan your hands for drug residue or some sort. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I have heard alot of differant routines.. I use a basically hand santitizer and soap and water.. I depends on where he has been. When he was at Lompoc.. they scanned everybody and I saw lots of false(?) positives, I was lucky it has not happened to me yet. Where he is now at Taft, they dont scan at all. But, rule of thumb.. do not touch any money in any way.. I put my money in the clear purse and dont touch it again. I wore gloves after washing them at Lompoc.. and I never touched the door handles or pens. Depending upon where you are visiting, it can be very tricky.. so check with someone who goes to your specific place and see how it goes there.. but always be ready.

Take your own pen in to fill out the form and leave it there instead of taking it in. I buy 12 at a time for 79 cents.

i have had friends who have been false positives for touching money!! you have no clue all the kinds of residues on things!! I hear hand sanitizer works well and dont touch anything after you use it and as someone else said bring your own pen

I had one of the guards warn my not to touch or rub my eyes. They tend to water alot and it has became a habit. She had noticed I did so I went and rewashed my hands then she gave me a thumbs up. Goes to show they are aware of the false positives and how they may happen. I thought that was cool of her. I have used the hand sanitizer along with soap and water and try not to touch anything hair, face anything. So far all has been good.

I keep a thing of baby wipes in the car and just wipe down before I go in. I actually had the ion test the first time I visited and had no problems. I also go and wash my hands after I fill out my form and just make sure to not touch the door handle or anything else until my name is called. But different places have different procedures so I don't know if that will work for you?

I've been through this for 2 1/2 years and only tested positive the first time. I beat the stupid machine after that by doing research. First like someone else said, bring your own pen, don't touch anything and use rubbing alcohol to wipe everything. I used to have it in a spray bottle and sprayed my clothes, shoes, etc. I also brought those little alcohol wipes with me and cleaned my hands before I went in. Worked every time. Also, try google, ion scanner. The government spent so much money on this machine and it's worthless but they aren't going to admit that. Also, make sure the guard changes his gloves each time so he/she should have clean gloves for each test. Good luck!

Also, if you test positive, you have the right to ask for a second, confirmatory test.

I don't want to sound like a square but this is a support forum, not how to get away with passing through the machine so they don't find drug residue. PTO is not for this type of stuff.

I thought they were talking about getting a false positive test, not trying to pull a fast one. It can be very upsetting to get a false positive test.

Umm, "support" comes in lots of forms. Some of it is emotional, but more of it is informational. More often than not, complete or correct information goes a long way to easing emotional stress.

Regarding the ion scanner issue, the damn things have been discontinued indefinitely because the BOP finally realized they were totally unreliable. But this came after years of complaints from family and friends who were denied visits because they tested positive because of something in a hand lotion, or touching money that had previously touched someone with another substance.

During the long period when they were being used, many, many people on PTO shared information on how to avoid the false-positive result. And that information gave emotional support to countless others. Imagine travelling thousands of miles, spending money on airfare and hotel reservations, etc., to spend a weekend visiting a loved one, only to get a false-positive test result and being told that you can't visit! And being denied the right to be re-tested or frisked or manually searched! That's severe emotional stress.

Very few people here are trying to "beat" anything in the BOP system. "Cope", yes. "Beat", no.

So much information is shared here. Where to send money, can you sprinkle perfume on a letter, can you send packages, what's the visiting room like, how does the phone system work, can someone tell me about the HWH process, can someone help me with the release date calculation, and on and on. There is an emotional need at the core of every one of these questions, and there is support in every one of the answers.

Guess you never experienced a false positive, I hope you never do. Like NY says...it's SEVERE EMOTIONAL STRESS. People were just sharing to avoid going thru something like that. It happened to me 3 times...and I was never trying to "get away" with anything.

Thank God this machine is no longer being used within the BOP and I hope it stays like that!

Lightbulb I was devastated

In Canada they are still using theses crazy machines.
I drove 3hrs to go for my Congigal visit. Firsttime I had seen him since April. I smoke weed. They scanned me... found NO THC BUT FOUND COCAINE ON MY THIGHS AND THE VACUUM FOUND FENTANYL IN MY BAG. I don't know anyone who does either.
My clothes were new, toiletries new, Bag new, Prescription meds in Blister Packs and 2 bottles. Everything was sanitized... As per my normal procedures, down to my socks as I put them into my shoes.
I offered a strip search, pat down... ANYTHING and they said no and even told myself and my husband they didn't thimk I had anything on me but because my levels were so high...they wouldn't let me in and we had to go in front of the board. Paperwork I was handed SMUGGLING!
Our visits are back on...I havent gone back yet... I'm so nervous... I don't know wha I did wrong. I passed ion and the dog all the time at the Max jail... He transfers to Med and the first time I go... I can't even get thru the ion... I don't get it. I was escorted to my car, and I never got to see him! Not even behind glass!

I know this is an old post... I am hoping someone reads it and can help relieve my anxiety and tell me where I messed up?!

Thanks
JoJo

Did you wash your clothes and the bag? Just because they were new doesnt mean they are clean, as you dont know where they have been.

Oh how heartbreaking to go all the way there and be denied due to a false reading.
I hope someone can offer some suggestions.

Yes I live in a building with underground parking. The clothes went from there dryer to the trunk.
I dropped off a money order in an envelope instead of money... I guess no Moe reusable bags bought at the dollar store either... Iím going to get a bag that can be washed with my clothes.

I was devastated and there was a grown ass woman crying like a 2yr old because I wasnít understanding how theses substances got on me or why I count see him if they believed I didnít have anything on me... and used my readings! I donít know where their dog was or where someone of a higher rank or female officer of higher rank to help me get through with a search of my person. Heís setting another date soon and Iím scared to get another Faldo positive because here 3x and NO MORE VISITS AT ALL and affect his parole. He has 18months left before he sees the Parole Board!

I have, over the past 3 years, stuck with a routine lol. I wear the same jeans, sneakers, with a different button down shirt each time. The different shirt is just so I can differentiate when our pictures were taken.
I ask my bank, well in advance, to order crisp $1 bills. I figure they're less likely to have any kind of residue on them. They go into my clear bag and stay there until I'm in the visitation room.
As soon,as I get back home, I wash the jeans (and towel I take) and immediately put them back in the suitcase.
I also carry disinfectant wipes to wipe down the rental car and everything in the hotel. Nothing fancy...just the $1.64 generic wipes I get at Wal-Mart.
So far, only one ion scan...thank God!

I hope my "crazy" routine can be of some help?!? Personally, I don't want to drive 6 hours (was 8 before his move) to be turned away!

I basically do the same except buy a brand new bag every time because I’m paranoid of the weed ions even tho it’s legal here. Clothes washed and into that bag into the trunk! All brand new toiletries... that I will start wiping down... I never thought of that because it came brand new so I figured they wouldn’t bother me with it! The last time I didn’t wipe out my car but hadn’t smoked weed in it.... Only place I can see I may have picked up the Coke and Fentanyl ions were when I went to the washroom at the GAS STATION *♀️*♀️*♀️! I’m so paranoid now that I’m nervous to visit! I will try your methods! Any ideas are good ideas to me! I just wish they would take theses false positive machines out the jail and make use of their dogs! I would much rather a dog on me then a false positive or implement the body scan machine like the airport! Thank you for your suggestions they are very much appreciated

I tried everyones suggestions including the washable bag.. even walked in with my Lysol wipes on my hands. I didn't care if I was making it obvious I didn't trust their jail after my last experience. I never sat to wait, I opened doors with my wipes, put my meds in the locker with my wipes, washed my car key and their key with the wipes, wiped their pen with the wipes before signing in and putting my clothes bag thru the xray machine. Then threw out the wipes. I put their key on top of their xray machine and went thru the metal detector. The guard never put on gloves... with his bare hands grabbed the wand and made me swab my pocket. He asked why I was being so cautious... I said I'm not going thru the same bullshit as last time. My pocket was fine. He vaccumed my bag for ions and that came back fine. He let me thru. While waiting in the bubble... I forgot I didn't lock my car. He let me lock the car and go straight back to the bubble... not ion or metal detector. Then they brought me to the dog which I always pass without an issue because I'm not doing dumb shit and I was on my way to be processed in for my 72hr conjugal visit. I found the last time a white guard is the one who gave me issues at ion... I'm white, my husband is black. The black guard may not have followed procedure with gloves.. but no issues and even let me lock the car from the front door. But this visit when being escorted for my meds, one white guard checked my mouth to make sure I swallowed my meds... none of the other 4 did that. Same guard while processing out, didn't know I speak french (I speak English, so I can understand when they talk shit!) was talking about my man and how I swapped glasses with him during the visit, because he had nice new shiny ones I got him before he was transfered that he only wears when he's having trouble with his contacts or when he comes to see me. To his surprise when I pulled out my female zebra framed glasses and told him btw I have my glasses here... his mouth dropped and he finished my paperwork real quick not really checking anything else except my piercings and said Have a nice day. I told my husband I loved him in front of the white guard, my husband reciprocated and I walked out of processing. It felt good to stick it to the little french guy who thought and carried himself as Rambo. Oh shit... the English lady understands French! It made my visit complete.
So I would like to thank you all for your help and let you know the little funny we played on the tough guy guard.

Much Love to you all
