Default Is Winn Correctional Center closing?

What is going on at Winn Correctional Center, is it closing? Inmates are being shipped day by day, the Jpay machine is not working, the 800 number the phone calls have changed. When you call, you get the run around. Any help is greatly appreciated

Although this article is a bit old.. it might provide some insight in to the budget cuts and restructuring of Louisiana DOC.

Louisiana Department of Corrections to take over privately run Allen Correctional Center in Kinder

Here is the part about Winn further into the article...
“With GEO's departure, the only remaining privately run state prison in Louisiana will be Winn Correctional Center, which is run by LaSalle Corrections, a Louisiana-based company. LaSalle took over management of Winn last year after CCA terminated its contract there.”

I've heard this, too, and that they are moving US citizens out to make room for immigrants in migrant detention. I called the number the LA DOC has for WCC (318-628-3971) and it rang for about 3 minutes then disconnected. The few people I knew at Winn have been moved. They said before they were moved that they were hungry and that there wasn't even soap in commissary-- cruelty which would make sense if they were closing the prison. One person also said that they were in the last group that would be leaving the prison

As the other poster said, they've been having financial trouble for years and kept cutting amount paid per prisoner (Winn is/was a private prison). Even CCA cut ties and it's currently run by LaSalle. Detaining migrants is unfortunately a good source of money that is unlikely to dry up soon.
