Can you tell me what yard is GP level 2 on?

I am not sure- it is an entire new yard that was just built. The whole yard is brand new and "state of the art" according to CDCR, they already had A-D so it is probably E.

Do you recall if visits are terminated early due to overcrowding?.

When I used to visit they were, but I don't know what size the visiting room at the new facility. Since it is new, hopefully it was built large enough to accommodate visitors. The processing center was a mess when we were there and it took FOREVER to get processed and the rules on the clothes were outrageous.

Is there an outside patio that you can walk around in?.

"yes" but I don't know if I would call it a "patio" but there is a small area surrounded by a concrete wall with benches where you can go outside.

I heard you can buy food from a short order cook? as well as from the regular vending? Is this still true?

Yes, they come to the rooms and take orders and then delivery the fresh cooked food back to you about an hour later. It is food made at the staff cafeteria there. It is good but very, very expensive. Better for some special treats- they also have pizza--- yum which the guys love!

Do you know If there is still CALPÕA? which employs the fellas? do they still have a shoe and bakery factory? for the fellas to work in?

Not sure what is available on the new yard.

Last but not least do you know how many FV units are available? I read somewhere there was only 1 ....I'm hoping that's not the case...

Sorry, don't know this one.

Thank you
Hope this helps!

When were you last there?

Are there hotels/motels close by?

Is this a medical facility?

Thank you once again

It has been about 3 years now.

Are there hotels/motels close by?

I always stayed at the Travel Lodge in LaMesa. There are closer hotels, but more expensive. Also, RJD is right on the border of Mexico, literally, if you pass the prison exit you end up at the entrance to mexico! LOL.

San Diego is very expensive.

I always stayed at this hotel, it is super clean and very nice and the staff was always very friendly. Good price- $59.00 About a 20 minute drive to RJD if I remember correctly.

Glad to hear that! If you land there and have more questions that I can't answer, let me know. I can put you in contact with the IFC chair there.

Hi......

A visiting questionnaire is updated every 2 years. You should be allowed to visit the day of. You complete one out, and turn it in after visiting. It's done this way at our facility.

Try calling 619 661-6500 and ask for visiting. Ext. 7900

Good luck.

^^I would look up hotels in Otay Mesa which is a nearby area. Probably the closest place near RJD. Also, San Ysidro is a bigger area and might have more choices for you. It's no longer than I'd guess 15-20min from RJD. There is nothing really around the prison except for fast food places and gas stations. You can see Mexico from there - it's that close to the border.

Quality Inn is about 7-10 minutes from the Prison. Holiday Inn Express also. I stayed at both before I moved to SD.

I haven't been able to visit in 3 years. I tried to make an appt for next weekend but VPass said there were no appts available. What happens if I just show up at 8am on Saturday or Sunday without an appt? Will i be able to get in for a visit? Can someone tell me what the process is without an appt please?

I called and spoke to a visiting LT. He said one of the reasons in the E yard some inmates got chicken pox and they need to contain it. He did not tell me the other reason. Which I would like to know as well? My dad is in r.j. donovan and usually calls me a few times a week. Ha entry heard from him in over a week. Hope this helps.
