Angry Visits to Alabama death row impossible if you live in the u.k

Hi I am from the u.k and have a very close friendship with a man on death row at holman but thanks to the new rule changes I will never be able to visit him. Even getting mail to each other creates problems as the mail room seems to suit itself Does anyone know if phone calls are permitted on death row ????

I have no knowledge of the system at Holman. Sorry!! What are the new rule changes? Phone calls are most definitely permitted on DR at other institutions. Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but will look into this for you.

Just to let you know that a new DR support group in the UK will be set up shortly (see posting in Capital Punishment Section), so I will keep you informed etc. In the meantime, please feel free to contact PM me at anytime

Hi lisainengland

I am another Lisa in England and I write to many Dr inmates one of whom is in Florida and my name is on his list of visitors after filling in the relevant forms and checks etc. The only thing that stops me from visiting is MONEY at the moment. I have never experienced any mail problems yet either. I am sorry that I could not help you with your problem at Holman (where is that?) but I am sure that one of the fab members on here will be able too. Good luck

Smile re: rule changes in alabama

Hi everyone. I recently emailed the public relations officer in Alabama and he told me that although I could apply for a special visit there was no guarantee the warden would grant it. The rules for Holman correction facility are now as follows.1) Special visits are now every 6months and only apply to spouses or immediate family.2) Regular visiting lists can have 6 family members and 1 male and 1 female friend. There may be more than that but they are the ones that have affected me and may well affect anyone else in the uk. Thanks to everyone that answered me its great to know that such support is out there. Lisa

I asked my pen pal if I could visit him, he's at Homan. He said I'd have to ask him 2 months in advance so I could be approved... but if those rules you've got there are the new ones then no chance. :-(

You have to pass a back ground check and be approved. I did not know of a rule change at all as long as they can do a back ground check. You may want to call them and ask-rules are subject to change. good luck!

Thanks lauriann, I actually posted this thread back in 2006 when I was a newbie to all this. Sadly my penpal was executed in 2011 and I never did get to visit him.
I do have another pal there and I know that special visits are very rare and phone calls are pretty impossible if you live in the UK

May I ask what that back ground check includes? I'm from Germany and have a friend at Holman. We haven't talked about it yet, but it's pretty obvious that a visit will happen in future

The main component of a check is criminal history; convicted felons are generally excluded from visiting prisons. I'm not sure what else they look at--if anything. They want to make sure you aren't a felon, particularly one that will cause mayhem and conflict when you visit.
