No I didn't look at walmart on-line thats where I bought the tenderloins. The ingredients except soy sauce!! Publix is about 30 miles from here and it really doesn't have much of a international foods selection, fresh or frozen, canned or bottled!!! I couldn't even find ginger!!LOL Forget anything remotely exotic, like bean sprouts!!LOL I am not even joking. I had really no clue it would be this hard to find even wonton wrappers or eggroll wrappers. I can only guess at some ingredients like chinese 5 spice? I just want a simple chinese pork marinade. I have some plenty of recipes to make all sorts of things with the pork once its cooked just can't find even hoisen sauce. Crazy I am just dying for chinese food, last time I had any here it was frozen eggrolls because I can't find a real chinese resturant.

Well with all the Hurricane stories I really would like people to list some healthy hurricane supplies that are storable and any ideas for keeping stuff cold or heating foods with out electric or gas. I know they sell MRE's at camping supply places and I have eaten plenty of them they aren't bad at all. they come with heater packs. I always save bleach bottles and wash them out and fill them with water keep about twenty in my storage room. two liter bottles of water I freeze for Ice packs to keep stuff cold for a few days longer in case I loose power. I keep sterno for heating stuff. I always have and am glad of some of these things in an emergency. Food I always have about a two week supply of canned stuff. that can and will be eaten cold if I have to. I also have extra paper goods, plates, bowls, paper towels, plastic ware. Lots of Toilet paper!!! I am running out today to get some bookBecause if I have books to read I can handle the boring no electric no internet, no phone, no radio, no tv. Any one with anything they do please post it might help someone who either don't know or never had to be prepared.

Do you take any extra food measures for the dog?

I cook and freeze rice and I also make hard boiled eggs.

I hear ya on the books! All my devices are loaded and I verified where in the attic my boxes of paperbacks are - just in case.

I have a gas stove & water heater so that helps although hot meals aren't vital to me.

Do you drink coffee? I am going to make a big pot and freeze 1/2 so I can have iced coffee. Same with tea; will freeze some.

As things stand now the storm shall totally miss me although I am sure there will be a rough surf.

How full is your freezer? No matter how full it is fill some containers with water and put them in the freezer.

As the storm nears fill your washing machine with water as well as your bathtub if you have a tub. Fill everything with water you can. Everything.

I spent 3 days getting ready for it and now will get nothing.

Operate on the theory you will be without power for three days and water for at least three days. Your freezer will be fine for that amount of time if you only open it when you have too.

Do you have a manual can opener?

Go buy beer if it isn't all sold out. I'd guess Bama people like their beer.

You know the drill!

Do you have a hall way with no windows? Sleep there on the floor. Stay away from windows.

Put anything of real value in the dishwasher - make sure it is not on a wash cycle!

Do not read The Perfect Storm!

Are you more worried about wind or water?

I am ready for either although one can only do so much.

Charge you cell phone.

If the power does go out that long toss the mayo.

Ive seen some awesome videos about how to charge your cell phone with a 9v battery
Tho I suspect its a bit late, now.
Hope you have a transistor radio.
And batteries, candles.

You can also save a bit of room in the freezer by freezing zip lock bags of water (stand them up and line them up so they all hold eachother upright) Then they can be used for ice packs or for cooling things or even drinking.

Ive been worried about you xo.....

XO is a recovering Floridian - she has weather many storms and I have faith she is well prepared and will weather this one too.

She has food for her and the dog. She has books, and all her other vices - she will be OK.

YES! I often make dumplings with pot roast - they are fantastic, but them I love dumplings.

I make my dumplings from scratch normally, but I have in the past used canned biscuits or Bisquick.

Rice on occasion too.

I just don't have much space in my kitchen or I would learn to make a lot of stuff from scratch. I hope and pray your not in the bad flooding. I am so appalled at the wide spread disaster of Irma. I'm praying for all!! And cooking like a crazy woman!!! LOL

Flooding not bad for me although the winds are impressive.

Use Bisquick and store it in the freezer. I use dumplings in beef stew and chili too. When I make them for chili I use some cornmeal in the mix.

I am working on more chicken and dumplings right now.

It's fantastic. I'm going to make some too. It's good with red or green chili. Mi power went out about 30 minutes ago.

What I hate about cooking? The clean up!!! I am just not cut out for the clean up!! I am so sloppy when I cook. The reason I am writing this is every week I take apart my stove, clean it, clean out the fridge and chuck any left overs. I only do it because if I don't do it every week I will actually get physically sick to my stomach from the sight of that hidden bowl in back of fridge. Anything that smells funky forget about it!! LOL I just had a inspection of my apartment and my landlord was like do you ever cook? I was like yeah all the time! She say's well you can't tell from your kitchen. I am taking this as a complement, although I'm not sure she mean it that way. Then later that day my friend neighbor say's girl you gotta stop cleaning your kitchen so much, landlord told her she thinks I don't have food to eat!!lol I am not starving, just cleaned out my whole fridge and really had little in fridge, freezer because I figured we were getting the storm here and mainly had water ice a few things like cheese crackers I didn't buy any perishables as I didn't want to lose anything. Anyway she told the landlord well you know how those New Yorkers are!!! Which is funny because I was born there and only lived there till I was 15, moved to Florida but my accent is pure NY. Anyway I am so glad that my kitchen looked so good and I don't care what landlord thinks because I didn't have to go crazy cleaning as I do it everyweek anyway!!!

It looks like a bomb goes off when I cook. I wish I could clean my kitchen the way you do. Sometimes I just don't care enough. At least my kids are getting used to emptying the dishwasher and helping out. I wasn't born with the clean trait. I have work at it and I hate it.

I blame my lack of interest in cleaning on my mom's ODC cleaning issues. NOTHING was ever clean enough so why bother?

For some reason I can't use flour without the entire kitchen looking like a snow storm. And frying?????? Grease ends up everywhere.

"I manage to get sauce on the ceiling."

I'd blame that on the ceilings being too low.

I dont usually make a big mess when I cook and I try to clean as I go.
Not the case with everyone in the household.
My hubby manages to boil over his oatmeal at least once a week.
Then he will leave the mess or pour water around the burner to *soak* the mess and put a kitchen wash cloth over it.
Guess if you cant see it, its not there.
He drives me nuts sometimes.

but he does a good job with bbq-ing.

OH and I noticed I have sauce on my ceiling too.

I cover the pots so I pretty much keep the stuff just hitting the walls counter, floor. Stove top is always the worst!! I love oven cleaner!!! I strip down stove top spray it on everything let it sit for at least 2 hours put all parts in dishwasher even electric eyes. New clean stove top!!! I even put oven racks in dishwasher. Walls and so on I have washable paint, stuff that stains like sauce I try to wipe down quick.
