Default Can money buy happiness?

I have been reading a few magazine articles recently on whether money can buy happiness and they all seem to reach different conclusions. What do you think:can money buy happiness? Would you be a lot happier if you had more money, would it just make your life easier or would it just create more problems?(I voted that it would make my life easier, not happier)

IMO, money CANT buy happiness BUT it would make things easier for me, thereby making me happier...but I am happy regardless of my situation-with or without money.
Sometimes having alot of money does cause more problems...ie...people who have ulterior motives, trying to be your friends because you do have money.

I actually answered before i saw the poll...

I don't think money can buy happiness, true it might make life easier...but there are some people that have all the money in the world that are miserable, and some people that have no money that are extremely happy and high on life

I agree, it may make life easier in some ways but no, money can surely not buy happiness......not the lasting kind of happiness anyway...just temporary...

I don't think money could buy happiness but more money would make me happy. I have been out of work from a car accident and I haven't worked in 4 months. If I could just get my settlement I would be a lot happier and less stressed out.

I Think It Could Rent A Hell Of A Lot Of Happiness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I Had To Vote Yes.... And I Have Been On Both Sides , Very Rich And Poor...
Never Very Poor. But It Eases A Lot Of Life's Problems For Sure.

I've also been on both sides of the fence. It can't buy the most important things in life like self-respect, true love, family, etc- but it can buy temporary happiness.

I don't really know as I've never had a lot of money. I could sure use a trial run though. I could do with a little ease right now, but I too believe that true happiness cannot be bought.

I don't think money can buy happiness. Having a lot of money only brings more problems and drama. Everyone who don't have no money will be coming to you for a hand out and if you don't give it to them most of them will get mad and tell you you are being selfish. Money can make things easier for those who just need a little bit more to get by. Like in my situation if I made a couple more dollars and hour I would be a lot less stressed about how and when I can pay my bills and make sure my child is taken care of.

Great question. I'm currently reading a book called "The High Price of Materialism" by Tim Kasser and it's about precisely this topic. Apparently there have been actual scientific studies that the pursuit of wealth and materialism have a negative impact on our mental well-being. So, I'd have to pick option #3. I think that money would probably make my life easier and less stressful, like not having to worry about bills and whatnot, but I don't think I'd be any happier.

Money can buy convenience, but not happiness. If you follow some of the stories of what has happened to people who have won big in the lottery, it's clear that if a miserable poor person becomes suddenly wealthy, all that happens is a miserable wealthy person.
But since I am ALREADY happy, I wouldn't mind a little convenience

There are absolutely aspects of my life that could have been improved with money -- better childcare, better healthcare, better dental care . . . love never managed to supply those.

Some of my stresses are over money; however, having plenty of it would definitely not make me happier. Some of the richest people are unhappy. Most recent case: American Idol Fantasia Barrino tries to commit suicide.
