Prayers lifted. I've lived through a few fierce ones myself.

FYI for any in Texas that have to evacuate to hotels, the collection of hotel/motel tax for victims or persons involved in relief efforts has been suspended for 14 days by Governor proclamation.

I was hearing out here that the storm is downgraded to tropical storm.......but its just stalled.
This isnt over by a long shot.
Hoping Harvey moves along now.
Take the rain with you.

What's up has everything to do with what part of the area one is living. Some are dealing with feet of water in homes and offices, while others have nothing in their homes but may have it in the coming days (especially Addicks and Barker Reservoir areas of town) while still others will not have anything in their homes but cannot drive due to the road closures.

Also waiting to impact the area is the water coming from the storms around the Brenham and other Central Texas areas that has yet to make it downstream. Even the areas in the northwest quadrant of the storm as it parked over the Houston area have seen close to 20 inches of rain.

It has continued enough that the news describes some of the current rain as "only an inch or two per hour" but even a half-inch for a few hours is too much right now...

I consider myself extremely fortunate in that I don't have water in the house and I still have power and running water. An old residence is at risk due to a potential levee breach. That was a house that never saw water prior to the construction of the levee a few decades back...and that is what makes this storm truly an unknown quantity precisely because places that have NEVER before flooded are now seeing feet of water in residences.

I feel for you guys out there.
I really do.

You never know what is going on from the news because they make it sound like all of Texas is underwater.
I know its not but some of the reports are horrific. Would never wish this on anyone.

My city got a bit flooded this past winter but that was because it decided to rain and rain and rain.
I think the total was only like 30 some odd inches.
for the WHOLE RAINY SEASON!
sheesh. Not 20+ inches in a week.

Im sure the soil is totally saturated and its no surprise its flooded.
Wish the jet stream would get a move on so it can push this thing outta Texas.

I dont think they are even close to guessing how bad this is going to be.

It really DOES seem like the entire State is underwater. The mass that received a minimum of 20 inches of water is amazing. Right now, you can basically draw a big circle from the Louisiana border to just outside of Austin, down to San Antonio, Corpus and Rockport, and then all along the coast back to Louisiana and you will find heretofore unknown amounts of rain. That is what seems like roughly a quarter of the State directly impacted by this event.

One of the local maps showed that there was not a single rain gauge in Harris County that got less than 25 inches of rain, with some being upwards of 50 inches so far...

The good news is that waters ARE beginning to recede in most areas. The problem for some is that areas west of the Houston metropolitan area that ALSO got dumped on have waters that are working their way down the rivers. As a result, people in SOME parts are going to see water RISE even when the sun peeks out tomorrow...
