Smile International Travel on Parole

Hi, I was wondering if anybody has any experiences or info about this question Thanks in advance for any replys.

I am on parole ( for like 6 months now) and my PO keeps very loose tabs on me, becuase I have never once given him any problems. Well, there is a very serious situation that makes me need to travel to Europe ( re: my family!) and I am american. My question is , does it show up in my passport that I am on parole?, and could I be screwing myself by going? But Im afraid if I ask my PO, that maybe its just a general rule that YOU CANT get permission. And if I ask he could be suspicious that Im gonna go anyway, you see what I mean.? Im in such good standing with my PO that really hes not gonna even notice if Im gone for a 10 day trip, but Im not knowing if US customs will have info linked to my passport that Im on parole. Do anybody have any advice for me. I know that the obvious answer is, dont go, forget it, but it really is a very serious matter. Do anybody know if they DO give permission to travel abroad, like can a supervisor sign off on it ( in california), Cause if thats possible I know my PO would do it.

Please anyone that know ,reply
Thnx

If you are "caught" it will be a violation of your Parole! I do not suggest it. Yes they do give approvals to travel especially if there is a serious family situation. If you contact your PO and explain I'm sure he/she will tell you what to do to apply for the approval. Now I can not be sure that they grant it for all cases. It probably depends on the restrictions of your parole but I would definately contact him/her before I went anywhere.

Hi, thank you for your response.

Do you know if that is for state parole? About them granting permission. Im not on the fed level. I want to find out before I ask, because if its an automatic no, then I think I have to try. but I dont like it.

Do you have any suggestions about how I could go about finding out, without having to put my name and situation up in it. ( fx...websites, or what office??)
Thanks

I have no answer but a similar question.
My son will come out to NO probation or parole, just has to register wherever he lives because he's a sexual offender and we wish to marry (my partner and I) in Canada and need to find out if he's allowed to travel there or to other countries? We are in Florida. He will not be on probation or parole when he's released. If anyone can answer that, I'd be appreciative, too. Or how to find out.
Thanks.
Hope this doesn't highjack your post Nicegirl - just a similar question.
Cindi

The issue of travel on parole should be the same for both federal and state. You would need permission to leave your juridiction.

As for your son traveling as a SO I would assume that their should be no problem if he has a valid visa. I woould have hin ask when he goes to register to be sure. They may not know and it may be up the the "receiving" country. You could call the consulate of the country (should be in a major city like Miami in Florida) and ask them.

Traveling outside of the US is permitted but only when your parole officer approves it. The best way to go about it is to write a letter to your sentecing judge, ask permission to travel and submit that letter to your PO as well. Most of the times the permission is easily granted. Good Luck. Peace.

please remember to check the laws of the country that you want someone to enter, a us citizen with a felony record will be rejected at the border unless they apply for a special visa to enter, yes there is the old standard of driving through and sneaking in but is the worth risk it?
