Unhappy Withdraw from inmate account

I have a friend who is incarcerated and needs me to pay a bill for him. He said that he is able to request money once a month from his inmate account and have it mailed to me. I need to know if an inmate can really request money like that. My biggest fear is doing something that is illegal. Of course I wouldn't pay the bill until I received the money because I can't afford to lose my money. Has anyone ever had to do this before? I want to help but I am so nervous.

My Mr's never had any money to send me, though it would be nice! LOL But, yes, as far as I know the inmate can authorize money from their inmate account be sent to someone they designate.

Thank you for replying. I wasn't sure if that was possible. I had never heard of someone being able to pay for something while in prison. If it has to be approved first then it should be legit. I wonder if they require a receipt be sent back showing what the money was used for.

No, I don't think they need a receipt. Its the inmates money, he can send it out to whoever he wants. ...it is legitimate bill, isn't it? Not an individual, right? If it isn't a straight up legit bill, I wouldn't get involved without a thorough explanation You sending money to another inmate's family for something your friend got in prison would be illegal.

Oh yes it is a legitimate bill. We won't be able to talk until the weekend so I haven't been able to ask many questions. I just started thinking about it and wanted to see if anyone knew how it worked. I think it takes several weeks to get mailed out so I have time.

I really want to tell him that I changed my mind and I can't do it but he has already made the request. He told me that you can only request a withdraw once a month so he would have to wait another month.

Kentucky recently put a stop to inmates sending money home. I'm glad your state still allows it.

Why are you regretting helping him pay this bill?
