Thumbs down Chris Christie Says He'll Veto Pot Decrim Bill

The New Jersey Assembly voted 44-30 to approve a measure (A1465) that would make possession of 15 grams of marijuana or less a minor civil offense similar to a parking ticket.

However, Christie has announced that he will veto the bill.

Fines would range from $150 to $500, with mandatory drug education classes for repeat offenders.

The current fine for marijuana possession is $1,000 and violators face up to six months in jail.

Jon Stewart mocked Christie's announcement on a recent show:

He is a total and complete moron. It's all gone to his head and he feels that he is King of New Jersey instead of a voted in Governor!!!

Parents of teens and young adults who've been in legal trouble for marijuana know - the worst consequence of their marijuana use turns out to be what Christie's criminal justice system does to them!

Christie is generally a very short sighted person, at least when it comes to the citizens of our state. On the other hand, he's pretty good at furthering his career. The New York Times did an excellent job exposing Christie's ties to the private company that runs New Jersey's half-way houses. So yes, it's fair to say that he benefits from this latest move personally.

The losers turn out to not only be those who get caught for a very minor offense, but the rest of us who have to pay to lock them up. Then there is the loss of tax revenue caused by jailing someone who could otherwise be very productive, were it not for a blemish on their record that will likely prevent them from getting a job that will allow them to realize their full potential.

Everyone loses except Chris Christie. I so hope he is only a one-term Governor.
