Default Hey y'all- I'll have lots of questions

I am beyond overwhelmed by and grateful for the information (and 50million more questions lol) I've found here.
My husband is looking at a 3 year minimum mandatory sentence. This will be his first time in prison (vs. county) and I can't imagine I could know any less than I do about it all so I hope I don't annoy with seemingly silly questions.

Thank you guys! I'm finding so many answers just by reading the threads and learning to navigate the forum but I haven't seen anything on how much commissary items cost compared to the outside. With about a month to go, I'm trying to get a head start on everything I can, including my budget.

A copy of the last commissary list I was able to get is posted in a stickie in What You Need To Know.

It's old, but prices won't be horribly changed.

Go to this page and read all the stickie's: http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=267

And, welcome to PTO!

I know prices on commissary went up last year. It's not like $14 for the guys to buy a case of soups. Their prices are comparative to gas station prices. It's not cheap and the guys and families are really upset. They also changed phone call prices too. To save yourself some money on phone calls you can get a phone number local to the prison and your calls will only be .65 for 15 mins instead of $2.14 per 15 mins

Someone else suggested getting a local cell phone and I plan to look into it as soon as he's assigned a "permanent" location. Thanks!!

Yes my cell number is local to the prison my husband is in. But it has to be that number on your bill and they can only change their phone list twice a year

Unless, you are already approved on the phone list. In that case, you send a copy of your old bill and a copy of the new bill and request a number CHANGE.

Some places want it to come from the prisoner, some want it to go directly to Classification. Call and ask.

Thank you for the info about the number change Anjewel. I'll have him go ahead and request approval for both numbers on our bill at processing and hopefully I won't have to wait 6 months to talk to him more than once or twice a week.
