Hi Tilly45, I moved your post to the parole forums.

Parole depends on what state or if its federal.
I saw you mentioned in a previous post its your dad who is in federal prison?
Could you elaborate a bit on the circumstances?

I dont think the feds have parole, but Im not too sure.
Hopefully someone will come along and be more helpful.

Federal "parole" was eliminated for any convictions after the law was passed in the 1980s. Anyone convicted in Washington DC (and probably in other non-states) is still eligible for parole that is supervised by the US Parole Board (or whatever they are called).

Instead of Parole, Congress passed laws that require that virtually every federal sentence includes a period of "supervised release", up to lifetime, that is monitored by US Probation Officers. It has all of the rules and restrictions of parole but without the benefit of an early release from prison. The negatives without any positives. You now serve your entire prison sentence (minus good time) and then begin your SR sentence.

Rule violations during SR can be punished by a federal judge with an additional prison sentence for violating the terms of supervised release.
