Reception period can be 30-45 days - during his first few days he won't be able to contact you and will have to wait for his numbers to get approved. You can write him though once you know his state number (you can find that on the Iowa DOC website relatively soon). Here is the address:
Inmate Name #xxxxxxx
IMCC
2700 Coral Ridge Avenue
Coralville, IA 52241

I don't know that they can email back in reception - Corrlinks wasn't available when my husband was in reception. If he is GP'd there then they do have Corrlinks available. If you can get $$ put on his account that will help speed a few things up - they do get an allotment of envelopes and such weekly while in reception.

I put $500 on his books in county before he left. That all gets transferred over right? And also, he went to treatment before he left, would that make any difference on the time he's going to serve? I know its his second time in prison but different charges.

And also, is there any chance I will get to visit him? I always thought it can only be immediate family, and we aren't married :/

yes money will go with him from county, and that was a very good idea, he will need a tv and all the goodies at prison, he will send you a visiting form and fill it out and send it in asap. you can visit once he gets put where he will be.

How much is a tv once he can get one? I have too many questions I keep thinking of! I just want to make this as easy as possible for him and me. Does anyone know how much time most people do on a 5 year sentence? It is his second time through, and he did 4 months in county before he left.

Ask away, that's what we're here for.

I think the TVs are around $250 to purchase, or they can rent one for $13/month.

Once inmates are processed at Oakdale, their sentence is cut in half. This would bring your bf down to 2 1/2 years. Subtract the 4 months already served, and that is 2 years, 2 months. Anything less than that would be up to the parole board. I would think he would need to serve at least 18 months. That is just a guess; anything can happen with the parole board.

Thats what he said... Probably 18 months. It sucks because he Could have beat the charges but just wanted out of the jail because they wouldnt reduce his bond. $100,000 cash only! I always thought that was against your rights to hold you on a ridiculous amount of a bond. But oh well now he's where he is and ill probably have more questions for somebody to answer during all of this! Are you able to send pictures on picture paper? Or does it have to be printer paper?

Try a million cash only. Yes, you can send pictures on regular picture paper. Just a heads up, I'm not sure if this is universal among all Iowa prisons... at Anamosa they're pretty strict about "hand signs" in photos. They have rejected photos with little kids flashing the peace sign, a grown man saluting, and kids making the first letter of his name with their fingers.

One piece of advice is to read as many posts on this forum as you can. I used to think posts were really old if they were from last year but they were current in the info. I used to go to the husband n boyfriends in prison forum on here because there is bunch of relationship stuff that helped me at first but now its something different on how I go about handling it. So now I stay with the iowa forum and the good sisters on this great forum! Hugs to you!

how long did it take for you to hear from him?? my boyfriend just went to oakdale yesterday and im so used to him calling everyday its hard getting used to not hearing from him at all he had a 2 year sentence though, and if you said they cut it in half when they get to oakdale, he would only have a year, and hes been on probation and in and out of jail since last august. i think his jail time equals out to be aroun 8 months... so is he only going to be there for what? 4 months? whats the point in taking him all the way out there... i hate this ugh!

I think if he broke his probation he's Gonna have to do the full sentence. Not sure though thats just what I understood. I replied to your pm sorry it took so long. I know what you mean about getting calls everyday and Then nothing. My bf would call me when i woke up and after I got off work and Sometimes he'd call while I was sleeping. Now I only get a call about every 4 days and half the time I'm at work and cant answer! I write him every day and that helps a lot. You can send emails and they print it off and give it to the inmate. He thought that was pretty neat since they didn't have it last time he was in. If you wanna know anything else just ask its only been about a month since my bf has been in oakdale but I'm catching on pretty quickly with the "rules"!
