Default Talking about Trial Experiences

Hey PTO !!

Okay so long story short my man was SUPPOSED to start trial April 16th. The prosecutors then pushed it back to May because they said they had to gather more stuff for the trial and NOW the prosecutors asked the judge for more time again!! So not they are pushing for the trial to be no later than August. This sucks !! Ive been nervous and awaiting trial for almost a year and when I was finally ready to face it and prepare they keep doing this. Now im back to being nervous and going over all of the "what if's" or "i wonders". I was wondering have any of you ladies and your men went through trial? How was your trial experience with him? Was it a solid case or bullcrap? Were you a nervous wreck like i am? lol. I would appreciate it if you guys could share your experienced with me. Me and my man have never been through a trial before and we are both nervous to see how they do things, and how it will play out.

My man pled quilty and saved us all that. But from when i was working in the system, I can tell you what you are going through is not unusual. They are trying to cross all thier t's and dot all their i's before they go to trial. You might ask his attorney about filing a motion about a speedy trial. Sometimes it helps. God luck.

The plea they offered was crazy so his lawyer told him it would be best to go to trial . But we did ask for a speedy trial and this is still what we are getting . I just don't know what to expect or how it all works

ya trial is stressful..i went thru so much from trial being last august to it just being a month and a half ago. The date got pushed back alot because of a lawyer change, and then having his trial changed to a preliminary so it took forever for trial to come and then when it finally came the judge stated he wouldnt make his decison for another 6 weeks!! i was freaking like its such a process the system..but 6 weeks later he was found not guilty and he will be home june 6th So after 15 months of hell its all ending...i hope your mans trial goes well and hes home soon

Hunny been there done that, my hunny went to jail may 4th of last year, trail was set for aug they moved it to nov, then feb. Which our lawyer wasnt upset he said he needed more time as well, though eventually my man signed the dang plea, which in fact upset his lawyer. His lawyer didnt want him to sign, he said they didnt have a case that was the reason they kept pushing if off. THough my man had 2 complete sets of charges and he said the gun charge alone would bring the same amount as the plea so he didnt care to sign. But still The way I was informed was they are worried because they dont have a strong enough case. Dont take that for 100% as every single case is different. What does his lawyer say, is he in jail or home, mine was in jail the whole time we couldnt make bail, so therefore we were very tired of awaiting trial. Goodluck sweetie.

Thanks !! Well my bf was home on bail but then they locked him back up for a gun charge. But the gun charge is nothing compared to what hes going to trial for. He's a first time offender so if he beats trial he will only do 2 yrs max which is not bad. But i was also told the same thing you were. I was told that in many cases when the prosecutors push it back many times its because they dont have a strong case and are still trying to find stuff to help build it more. In the beginning his lawyer told us that the case isnt strong which is why he didnt take the plea. I was soooo ready for trial to come and go and they keep doing this. I hate it !! Now im a nervous wreck waiting AGAIN. I dont know how the trial process even goes that much so im a little curious. Whether the outcome is good or bad im just ready for this "waiting game" to be over

Thats so good for you !! Even if my man beats trial he still has to do at least a year for a gun charge which is seperate from what hes on trial for but no more than 2. But thats not bad to me i'd take two years any day over his trial charges. Im just curious about the whole trial process seeing that ive never actually sat in on one. How was your experience? Was it nervewrecking? also if you dont mind me asking was it a bs case with bad evidence or did your bf just have a realllyyy good lawyer? lol

The more complicated cases take more time. I'm involved with a case, not a criminal one, but its been going on for ten years. The more complex things are, the more time is needed to sort things out. It doesn't mean that one side is necessarily stronger or weaker than the other. Believe me, both attorneys think they are going to win. A lawyer won't even take it that far unless he thinks that its a good idea.

My Dad was arrested in November 2010 and it went to trial November 2011. It went from November 7th 2011- January 31st 2012. There were 5 co-defendants. The jury deliberated for 2 weeks.

I missed the first 3 weeks because I live in Australia and he's in Chicago. I read the transcripts for every day I missed but other than that I sat there every day listening to everything. The case against my Dad was extremely weak yet the jury did not come to a decision on one charge and found him guilty on another. There was no forensic evidence, no photos, no phone recordings, no police reports relating to the alleged crimes, no victims to testify only the testimony of 3 people. 2 had TOTAL immunity and the other cut a sweetheart deal for his testimony. Sitting there waiting and listening for the verdict was one of the worst experiences ever.

It was not easy to listen to the lies that the prosecution and some witnesses told. It was very frustrating. The opening and closing statements were some of the worst because the government can basically say whatever they want. The DEA agent and the prosecutor are husband & wife and their star witness against my dad admitted lying to the DEA agents and the grand jury 17 times and he admitted having two illegal phones for 3 months in prison!

A great deal happened throughout the trial that may lead to a re-trial. I can't imagine going through it again.

You definitely have to prepare yourself for how emotional it can be. I hope it all goes for the best for you. The unknown and the waiting is the worst part.

Yea im trying to prepare myself now. Im already preparing for the worst. Even though the evidence and other things might not be strong against my bf the justice system is so corrupt he can still be found guilty. Plus its worse that his fate is in the hands of the jury. However they feel and whatever verdict they reach says whether or not he will do time or walk free. Im just scared about everything. The whole trial process scares me. Plus i know that the prosecutors are always out to get the defendants so hearing the prosecutor tell lies or try to convince the jury they that are guilty will be the worst part

Thanks !! This entire thing is soooo nerve wrecking. I've only been going through it for a year and its killing me so i couldnt even imagine going through it for 10. My bf's lawyer "says" things should be okay but who knows. Just thinking of a trial where there are prosecutors and a jury scares me

I've been through the pushing the trial date back and back and back. It's been 11 months and trial is FINALLY happening. We are a week in and expecting two more weeks of trial. It is scary. I am a complete and total wreck. They don't have a solid case, but I can understand why they arrested him. He didn't do it. I believe he is innocent, but I understand why they would think he did. All their evidence has been forensically refuted against him though, it points to another unidentified man with the help of some crazy woman. It's a long and complicated story. But the bottom line is, at first glance it looks like he is guilty, dig deeper and it looks like something else altogether happened. I just hope the Jury is intelligent enough to see it.

Most nervewrecking experience ever!! I didnt see this trial buti have seen one of his other ones and i was terrified. This trial i didnt see cus of work but i went the 2nd day where they made the closing arguments n then 6 weeks later when the judge made his decision. Those 6 weeks were the most stressful of all. It was a bullshit case which depended on one co-accused who was very uncredible. So there wasnt much evidence. We had a bench trial though so just a judge, i think i would have been more scared had there been a jury but it may have come out the same verdict anyways u just never know.

mine is going through the thing with testimony from a co-defendant, co-accused or whatever it's called. They let her plea bargain for house arrest for her testimony against him. She has so much motive to lie about him.

ya she had motive to lie and she was inconsistent..thing is though she didnt actually witness what happened nor knew wat was happening apparently she was just the driver..there was no real link the whole case was based off an assumption that her car n my bf were involved in something n she plead cus she wanted to just get the court process over with so it was a real weak case
