Default No Air Conditioning at Fort Dix - can I do something?

I am very new to this whole prison world. I have a loved one at Fort Dix federal prison in NJ. Its in the high 90s some days and they have no air conditioning. Is this normal? I worry for their health and I feel like it is inhumane to anyone to be in conditions like that. Is there something I can do about this?

Many federal prisons don't have air conditioning for the inmates. Fans help, but it is still often very uncomfortable.

My LO is in a state prison in IL and they don't have A/C either. They can purchase fans and special towels through commissary, but that's it.

My man is incarcerated in Texas, where almost all TDCJ facilities have no air conditioning. Most summer nights the temps do not drop below 80. Thankfully he's healthy and should be able to withstand the 100+ daily temperatures.

I worry, though. A lot.

Nothing you can do but if your loved one has a fan on their commissary list have them order it.

The Fort Dix commissary list does include a "personal fan" for $10.95.

Anything helps, but the fans that are run by electricity are better than the battery powered ones.

The commissary fan runs on AA batteries. Not especially useful. Best thing your LO can do, if the COs don't catch them, is cover their windows with sheets, to keep the sun from heating up the rooms in the unit. That, and try to spend as much time as possible in the chapel or the library. Both have air conditioning. Rumor has it, a previous warden repurposed the money that had been designated for A/C, to build more fences. She awarded the fence contract to a relative of hers.

Same at pettyville. And theyre flooded in parts so the humidity is unbearable at times. Theyre all dripping sweat all day long, even in the showers lol. At least its not menard those poor souls have it real bad right now. Its been 2 months since they suspended visits and theres still more rain coming. The lower r&c and max division have the electricity turned off now becuz the flooding has risen so high.

My husband was at Dix for 2 years (ironically he worked in the HVAC shop). They never actually had the fans that were listed when he was there. He coped by spending time at the library and at the chapel library (fewer people used the chapel library).
