My husband uses jpay for his tablet I live in NYS they don't charge to use the tablet you can buy books to read on the tablet or buy music to listen to there isn't a monthly charge
I'm a member of a nonprofit called the Appalachian Prison Book Project (APBP) in WV. We send free books to imprisoned people in six states.
Right now, we are trying to learn how tablets are working for incarcerated readers. For instance:
does your loved one have to pay a fee to read on the tablet? What are the average monthly costs? Do you know what company provides the tablets?
We want to advocate for greater access to reading, so any information you can provide will be great. Thanks so much!!
NYS uses Jpay to provide the tablets free of charge. The cost of email, books, games and videos come from the inmate’s own commissary account.
I have not heard any complaints from the population, only speed of emails or videos back and forth (all reviewed) and the occasional “My on button broke what do I do...” type of thing.
All problems are directed back to the owner to plug into kiosk and communicate with JPay to resolve issues.

I think it has been a successful change.
