Ca urged to move inmates to the front of vaccine line
ACRAMENTO Attorneys representing California inmates are urging state and federal officials to advance about 1 of every 10 prisoners to the front of the line for coronavirus vaccinations, saying it would help ease the burden on hospitals while helping control outbreaks inside state lockups. They're asking Gov. Gavin Newsom and U.S. District Judge Jon Tigar to order the swift vaccinations of every inmate who hasn't already been infected, starting with those who are most vulnerable.
Interesting. This is part of the Plata Coleman hearings that have escalated since COVID. One more thing for Gavin Newsom to contend with in the less than stellar administration of vaccines.
If the goal of vaccinations is truly about saving lives and stopping the spread, jail and prison inmates are in the same category as nursing homes and medical workers (not all, but specifically medical workers dealing with the virus). Elderly and immune compromised are much more susceptible to bad outcomes, but have the ability to distance and protect themselves. They are not stuck in a fishbowl like inmates and nursing homes or face to face every day like the front line COVID workers.
Saving lives and stopping spread won't be the issue if this happens. It will become even more political than it already is. One can imagine editorial and public outcry if inmates (rightly) receive front line priority in vaccinations.

Once they get a correct way to get the vaccinations in the peoples arm who want them. I believe CDCR and all of the rest of the prison systems will have to give inmates the option to get the vaccination maybe by summertime
