Criminal Record Restriction and Expungement Workshops
Shared Email 02/01/2021:
People who have spent time in prison will have their subsequent annual earnings reduced by an average of 52%. To address this reality, the Reentry Services Division, in partnership with Georgia Justice Project, is hosting a Criminal Record Restriction/Expungement Workshop on February 5, 2021 from 10:00am - 11:30am. The link for individuals to register is included in the attached flyer.
The first session was very informative and discussed in detail all things criminal history related that create barriers to employment and housing for justices involved individuals. GJP staff will discuss Georgia’s new expungement law, applying for pardons, understanding criminal histories, and other ways to overcome the obstacles having a criminal history can present.
There are monthly First Friday sessions scheduled thereafter, through the month of December, that are open to individuals under supervision, stakeholders, staff and the community.
In addition to First Fridays, there will be THREE topic-specific sessions designed exclusively for individuals under DCS supervision:
February 18th @ 3pm (Housing)
March 18th @ 3pm (Child Support)
April 15th @ 3pm (Occupational Licensing)
Individuals must attend one of First Friday expungement sessions prior to scheduling an appointment to discuss their individual criminal record with a GJP attorney or paralegal.
Please share this email with anyone who may benefit from these services. The sessions are open to anyone.

Thanks for the links to the free 'First Friday seminars". There is information about expunging criminal records in Georgia, but there are many other topics covered during the series too.

GJP is doing great things. So is the Justice Reform Partnership. They have started the Talk Justice Tuesdays that you can watch online. Here is a link to the JRP site. https://justicereformpartnership.org/
