Default Georgia DOC Family Day April 21, 2017

Here is info on the next Family Day for GA DOC. I've never been but was wondering if anyone here has. Please share your experiences. Is it worth attending or just a way for DOC to look good to the public?

Family Day
April 21, 2017
Roberts Chapel
300 Patrol Road
Forsyth, GA 31029
9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
PAROLE ISSUES WILL BE ADDRESSED
Georgia Department of Corrections will have a meeting on April 21, 2017 for family members and significant others of offenders incarcerated in the Georgia prison system. The purpose of this meeting is for family members to meet with Departmental representatives and discuss issues concerning the incarceration of their love one(s). Offenders are responsible for notifying anyone on their APPROVED VISITATION LIST
who may want to attend this meeting.
What you need to know:
1) How should you prepare for Family Day?
Prior to arriving, consider what questions you might have and write them down.
2) What should you expect when you arrive?
Check-in at Roberts Chapel; please have your ID and the offender’s GDC number readily
available
GDC will have security procedures in place; to ensure fast processing, please only bring what
is necessary (i.e. pen, paper, ID, keys)
Family or significant others must be on the offender’s approved visitation list
GDC will issue color-coded numbers, corresponding to the individual/section with whom you wish to speak
Attendees must remain in Roberts Chapel until number is called
Once number is called, groups of 15-20 will be ushered to Vinzant Hall
3) Physical Assistance
If you require physical assistance, please inform a GDC representative during check-in.
Individuals who require physical assistance will be driven in an open-air golf cart to
Vinzant Hall by security staff.
4) Recommended attire
We recommend wearing comfortable clothing and shoes. There is a possibility you will be
walking or standing for extended periods of time.
5) Time with GDC representative
In order to ensure we are able to address the concerns of as many individuals as possible,
please try to limit your time spent with a GDC representative to 10 minutes, if possible.
Those who would like to speak with the Commissioner will be required to sign up for an appointment upon arrival. Scheduling will be based on first come, first serve, and appointment times are limited so he can see as many people as possible.
