Default Possible Sentencing Reform Questions

Folks, I am wondering something here. I need to state, upfront, that I don't believe in incarceration except for people who are dangerous to society. I have been living a Hell the past 27 months. My best friend was arrested for sending an image containing an underage person. I do NOT condone his offense...in fact, the whole idea is foreign to me.

My question revolves around the recent attempts, in Congress, to change federal sentencing laws and it seems that the focus is on drug offenses. Does anyone know if any current proposals would benefit a SO? I'm no lawyer so, everything I read, is confusing.

Would appreciate any help in this!

I doubt there'll be any kind of sentencing reform while Trump's in office.

None that I'm aware of, and I expect a speedy retreat to the W/Ashcroft "lock everybody (and definitely every SO) up in prison for the maximum possible sentence". The Attorney General's memo to all federal prosecutors ordering them to take full advantage of mandatory minimum sentences is already being circulated.

Let's hope the Senators, who re-introduced the Safety Valve Act, are successful! Anyone think their attempts will be retroactive? I can only imagine all the appeals that would take place if it were. However, if it's not there would be just as many lawsuits!

What a delightful "pickle" these lawmakers are putting themselves in!
