I know right? My husband does this the entire time, I've even started doing it without reason because I've caught on. I used to get pissed when his sentence first started , or the first time he got locked up because I felt like he wasn't paying attention, then he told me why. I guess I can't blame him.

I don't have a lover it's a friend I have inside:

Repeating the recorded message: you have a call from.... at..... in the voice of person

Knowing there #DOC and address off by heart even more than some family members

Using abbreviations/ prison related words: seg, DOC etc and when talking to friends they look at you in a confused expression

Knowing the time of the state your friend lives in and checking their weather

As I live abroad.. having friends asking the UK £ to dollar currency rate because they they are sure you will know

It didn't die, it reincarnated itself in GPT and was just merged.

You know you're the loved one of an inmate if you've come up with at least three creative ways to use a flimsy spork as an entertainment prop.

You know you're the loved one of an inmate when:

You get a new phone number and the only way you can remember the first 3 numbers is by recalling the last 3 numbers of your son’s CDC #.

It takes longer than usual to find a greeting card because the prison doesn’t allow cards with glitter, embellishment or music.

You automatically open the entire bag of chips even though you’re not in a prison visiting room.

You know you're a loved one when your bag gets searched by TSA because of a great quantity of round metal objects in it, and it's $60 of quarters (Yeah that happened to me my last trip out. Because my bank is local and the change machine is busted, I bring my own quarters.)

Eh, I just go when he gets to go for his restroom breaks. But we're out of states and my visits are an entire day. I can show up Friday, Saturday and Sunday and get the whole day with him because I am only there four weekends a year.

You know you're the loved one of an inmate if you can tell her convincingly on a visit that she looks pretty and sexy despite the fact that she's wearing the same kind of crappy, shapeless uniforms she's had to wear for decades.

You know you’re the loved one of an inmate when you answer the phone and as soon as you hear his voice saying, “Hey, it’s me”, you get so excited that you start talking to him immediately. You completely forget about that ridiculous lady and the recording. She just keeps talking and you can’t do anything about it. So frustrating!

I hate that lady. I really hate her. Can't wait to someday get a phone call from him without listening to her spiel.

You know you're the loved one of an inmate when...

...whenever you pick up your phone you think you gotta press 5 to talk to whoever called, and are waiting for that lady to talk long enough to do so, only to remember, the person who called you isn't in prison and is waiting for you to respond to their hello.

Done this on more than one occasion with my mother...

When Saturday comes you get a smile on your face because its visiting day. You save all your change during the week and you wear comfortable clothes since you visit every week and you see other women dressed up for like church. I don't have to do that for my guy since I see him all the time. You see white clothes and think of him.

You know you're the loved one of an inmate when...

He tells you he cant breathe without you and that he is constantly thinking of you

....when he gives you POA.....

....when he is in constant gratitude for what you have done and the sacrifices you have made to help him gain his freedom back.

When you get dollar bills in change and think you should save it for the next visit.

When you shop online at multiple store to find the same pair of sneaker for under $50

Watch you tube videos of boot camps to have an idea what that will be like.

Read every directive possible and still screw up a package order

Find memes online that would make a cute postcard

When you try to figure out how to look good on visit, when the dress code won't let you even wear a v neck top

Light candles praying for their safety
