Question How does paroll work?

My fiance got sentenced to 4 yrs for armed robbery. He is in minimum custody now. Is that kind of crime even eligible for paroll? He's been in since June of 08, time has flown by but I can't wait for him to be home with his little boy. Thanks in advance!

Hi there, here is some information and I'm sure others will chime in as well - according to the NC DOC unfortunately, inmates that are convicted under the NC Structured Senting Law must serve 100% of their minimum sentence. You can apply for an application for commutation or pardon, but it is very rare to be approved. You may want to take a look at the handbook for family and friends:

Hope this helps and good luck to you and yours!

no parole in NC anymore. the minimum sentence has to be served, working time off of the maximum sentence. depending on the level of felony (a,b,c,d....) would be whether or not they have to participate in the 9 month post release. in a sense its equivilent to probation/parole, because they have to follow rules like on probation. but you cannot get out of prison on parole like you could in the mid nineties. hope this helps a little.
