Default Visitation attire questions

Ok so I should be getting my first visit here soon. I have read visitation rules but I have a few quetions. First one is can you wear bras with underwire? I was thinking about that and wondering if that would make metal detector go off. I know that is such a silly question but I am curious. Second question is like if I wear a shirt that is made to be see through but you wear a tank top underneath is that acceptable? What about wearing tank tops under shirts is that ok? What about a shirt that is attached together but made to look like two shirts one is just over it open? If that made any kind of sence.

I usually don't wear underwire, just don't want to take a chance. I'd skip the see through top with a tank under. Yes, you can wear a tank under a t-shirt and the 2 in 1 type. Just not a regular tank as a shirt. I'd stick to t-shirt and jeans (absolutely no holes or frays in the jeans, whatsoever). Capris are also OK. NO CLEAVAGE AT ALL!! They'll give you a "sack" to put on the first time, if your top isn't ok. 2nd time, they deny you the visit. If the bottoms are not OK, they deny you. I would never wear shorts.

Any type of shoe is ok (except flip flops) but they will make you take your socks off if you are wearing any.

Hi to Isaacsweetie ~ agree with everything that Pookiedoo2 said. Capri's & crop pants ok but if you wear shorts the magic number is 3" above your knee when seated - they will take a ruler out to measure ! The biggest issue in dressing is the size of the visiting room and is there AC in it or not. Some places we were had AC and it was cold ! The last place our son was happened to be very small and no AC and we sweated like pigs in there !!! My bra is an underwire and sometimes it would set off the machine and sometimes not. If it did, I would just go back thru and cross your arms over top where the underwire is - never a problem.

Ok thank you so much ladies. What about a dress? I bought this really pretty silky type dress to wear to see him but now I am questioning if it is ok. It comes down even a little past my knee and does not show any clevage.

I'd stick to pants/capris...then no one can say anything inappropriate went on. I don't think I've ever seen anyone with a dress on...

I also have a question, I am disabled, and wear shorts and sweatpants together. I have a problem with my right leg and use a walker and a wheelchair, along with a brace to even walk, my ability to walk and stand is limited and varies from day to day some are better than others.

I have read about haveing to use the prision wheelchairs which will be rough as I am a large gentleman and have a wide wheelchair, but I will do my best so I can visit my wife during her time away. Back to my question I wear sweatpants due to my ability to stand and use the restroom by myself, I have to be able to brace my self and trying to pull up pants alone is a challenge, and to stand long enough to buckle pants and a belt at least right now is next to impossible, I have been trying to do this since she decided to take the plea.

Any information or recommendations would be appreciated.

You should be fine with sweats. Yes, they will make you use the facility wheelchair but you might want to phone ahead to make sure they have one available. Bathroom breaks are sketchy...you have to go outside of the visiting area and some facilities limit the break to one per visit. Not sure about Huron Valley, as my loved one isn't female. You may want to phone ahead for that info, as well. They might make you take off your brace so that they can check it. You'll get a pat down from a male officer and will have to make it through a metal detector. If you have ANY internal metal make sure you have a doctor's note depicting what it is and where.

Thanks I can walk for about 100' or so. I do have a knee implant but the maker or doc gave me a card with Dr. Name and list of all implants I have. Taking off the brace maybe rough but I will have to figure it out if need be. I guess I will have to work on lengthening my walking distance. And hope I don't have to stand for long. How long are visits?

I've seen dresses that were nicely appropriate. But I've also seen plenty of cleavage, skin-tight knit pants, holes in jeans, bra straps showing with tank tops, etc. It all depends on the officer on duty that day, unfortunately.

Thanks...I think i am going to try the dress cause it says you can wear them just have to be 3 inches above the knee...Mine comes down a little further than knee standing up so I am sure it will be fine. i just want to look cute for my sweetie. Plus am going to bring along a safe outfit in case they say no.

Visit length depends on how crowded it is on a given day. First in first out if they are backlogged. Visits are only Thurs-Sun from 2:30-9:00 I belive. I never stay the whole time because of the 2.5 hour drive home. You shouldn't have to stand for any length of time. They are pretty quick about the patdowns. If you need a wheelchair, by all means, call them and make sure they have one on hand for your visit!

If the brace is outside the pants will they still take it off? I need help to do so and it depends on who goes with me if they can or will do it. It is 2 metal bars that are permantly attached to the heel of the shoe and has a leather band that goes around the leg just under the knee. Are you allowed to bring anything with you to the visits? I am totaly new to this procedure. I have heard that you get a locker to put stuff in before you go into visit, is this true we need to be able to have a way to contact our ride. Due to my disability I cant drive anymore, so I need to work out transportation and want to spend as much time visiting as they are going to be hopefully at least once a month, more if I can find away. I would visit every chance I could if I had the transportation, I live relitavly close to the prision, just about 20minutes away depending on traffic. If anyone that is able to share a ride would be appreciated.

If you have a question about a particular item, you can take it with you and ask at the desk. They will let you know. I've done that before with certain tops, especially those with the layered look or a two-piece. I'd rather ask ahead of time for the next visit than have to change (but I always have an extra outfit in the car...)

Can't bring anything in to a visit except your change for the vending machines (all silver change) in a baggie (15.00 limit although they've never counted). No kleenex, nothing. Technically, you aren't supposed to have cell phones in any of the buildings. I would arrange a time for your ride to pick you up ahead of time. ONLY those people who have been approved and are on the visitor list of the inmate can visit. Can't take random folks in with you. You do get a locker to put your stuff in. You take the key in with you during your visit. The inmate is only allowed so many visits per month and only 2 weekend visits per month. I only get to see my loved on every few months because of the 2.5 hour drive. You do need to have a DL or State ID with you when you visit (they keep it and return it when your visit is over). I can tell you that you must take your shoes and socks off during the patdown so the brace will have to be removed, along with your shoe. There's no getting around that part of it.

We found the sheet that says about visits and being approved I have copies waiting to be filled out and mailed. The shoes and socks are going to be an issue I am going to have to solve. I can't do them on my own, and I am not going to not go see my wife for that long. I could not do that to her in this tough time. It bad enough I let her down and we in this mess to begin with. It bad enough I am only going to be able to go maybe once a month as budget is limited and I want to have money for mail, phone and maybe if we lucky a few goodies and books to help the time pass. We are trying to find a commissary sheet to get a better idea of how much she needs for the basics, there isn't going to be much more. Plus I want to try and have as much as I can of any costs she has paid off before she gets out as I can.

You can find the store list here: https://www.accesscatalog.com/shop/i...=98&FacilityID=

Some stuff they can't get in the prison store and some stuff is in there cheaper than on the ordering you can do. You can only spend up to 85.00 every quarter (3 months) and can only send ONE package every 3 months. An inmate can only receive ONE SecurePak every quarter. You have to order books and mags from approved vendors (B&N, Walmart, and Amazon...but not from individual sellers on Amazon, it has to be shipped BY Amazon). If you are trying to pay off costs and they are added to her bill, she can only receive 50.00 in her account per month (calendar month). Anything above that goes toward court fees and such.

As far as the socks and shoes go, don't know what to tell you. You may want to call ahead and ask if the COs will assist you with that (I doubt it). You might want to ask if they have a nurse who will come and assist you with that, also. Not sure if they will for each visit, if at all, but it's something you won't be able to get around. It's required. You may want to have a friend fill out a visitor application and send it in (and tell your wife to add that person to her visitor list) who can assist you and take that person with you each time. I don't know if they'll let that person assist you in taking off your shoes and socks or not. I don't see why not, though.

I have the link to the quarterly pacakges, I am trying to find the one that she can get on the inside I am trying to budget the money ahead of time as best as I can so we can have contact, via letter ect. I am going to have to work on making sure my son goes to the visits with me so he can help me with the shoe and sock issue. Trying make sure of a ride for the visits, would have to take my wheelchair with us and then back out after I transfered to the facility's chair, and figurre out the details of taking my walker, cant stand with out that. Hopefully we can get some of this worked out before the first visit, I think she is going to have to talk to them when she gets in as well to see what needs to be done, plus will be calling shortly after we send in the visitor apps to the prision. Will have to work it out some how dont want to waste a visit trying to solve problems or be to worn out to see her, can not do that to her. Trying to plan for once a month visits, more if I can pull it off. So we going to have to rely alot on letters and phone calls, as we can afford. Anyone know what the calls run, we are going to have to set up the prepaid account because I only have a cell but we dont live that far, and I call a friend not far from the prision and it was a local call when we had a landline. Any suggestions as to what phone service that they use for the prision?

Here is the link to the phone: https://payment.pcstelcom.com/payments/index.html

It's the only service you can use. Doesn't matter if it's local or not, it's about 3.20 per 15 minute call (they cut you off after 15 minutes). She can also get a prepaid calling card inside but that comes out of her store money.

I don't think you can get a list of stuff ahead of time for what she can get in the facility from store. It's not a huge selection, though. Women might have different products than the men, though. If your son you are planning on taking with you is the victim, it won't work. They won't allow it (for obvious reasons).

When she gets inside, she should talk to her counselor right away about your visiting issues. Might all work itself out from that end, might not. I have found that some of the counselors really don't give a crap. She might get a good one, though. My son has been lucky in the counselor department, he's had some good ones.

I don't know if you'd really need a walker...they can accomodate without one, if you only need it for standing. Not sure if they'll let you take that into the visiting room (although they do allow oxygen tanks and rollers for them).

I also need it to walk. I have a knee replacement and nerve damage below the knee so the leg is barely working. The walker is definitely needed. We have 2 sons, none of us have had contact with the one who started this nightmare. Long story, but I am afraid to have contact with him even after she goes in, I feel with his history I will be the next target of his lies. That don't mean I don't love him but I also know this isn't the first time he tried lying to get someone in trouble or him out of trouble. As for our other kids talking to him that is up to them, 2 are over 18, and our daughter is 17 and she is very adamantly refusing anything to do with him. Our older son is moving back to help take care of me so he will be the one to come on visits with me, at least till I can do it by myself.
