Default Anyone Familiar with Lois M DeBerry Special Needs Facility (DNSF) in Nashville?

I live in TN and my husband is incarcerated in Jersey. I am only able to visit him once a year, so he is planning to inquire about interstate compact. We have never checked into this and don't even know if this will be a possibility. If he does qualify for such a move we are certain he would be moved to DNSF. Does anyone have a loved one there and can you tell me anything about the place?
Thanks

I don't know anything about the facility, but you may want to call. Most of the time the facilities will give you some basic info and at least it would be a start.

Good luck! I hope someone here knows something they can share with you!!

I know of one person who is housed there. He was able to get a transfer from another Tennessee (CCA) prison. I have heard he is much happier at special needs. I do believe it is difficult to get in there though. Best of luck to you!

DSNF is for inmates with special medical problems or disabilities that cannot be taken care of in a regular prison. They send inmates there to see specialists, for surgery, to be fitted for prosthetics, for special medical treatments. Anything out of the ordinary that can't be handled in an ordinary doctor's office that is where an inmate goes. DSNF is very, very hard to get into, say if you have a noncancerous growth that needs removing because they are the only facility in Tennessee that takes care of these things they are treating the inmate that has the cancerous growth first. DSNF also houses bedbound and dying inmates, wheelchair bound inmates, and is completely handicapped accessible. Also, another problem with the medical system inside TDOC is that 90 percent of the prisons contract out their medical departments to private companies, paperwork is shoddy, the waiting list is a mile long, and most inmates are sent in a circle before they actually see a doctor, doctor. So the problem is actually ten times worse than it was when it started to begin with before they get proper treatment. Inmates see an LPN at sick call for medical complaints several times and are treated per TDOC "policy" before any action is actually taken on a complaint. And sometimes it takes greivances and other action also. Feel free to quote me on that, and if anyone knows any advocates besides the ACLU, that are actively working on a solution to this problem in Nashville, send em' my way, I'd be glad to donate any help I can.
