Default How Tablets work inside Oregon prisons

I just had this explained to me by someone who I know, and thought I'd share it.

The tablets are available to everyone, they just have to check one out. There are 3 levels of use:

1. Free stuff: account information, free books (tho' they are not always available), email, institution notices, money transfers and such.

2. cost: 3¢/minute: movies and... something else maybe - my friend doesn't use this section, so he's not as familiar with it - he says the movie selection isn't great

3. cost: 5¢/minute: games, iHeartRadio (needs an outside account with username/password, so someone on the outside needs to set the account up), ESPN, a dictionary app (jeez, that can't be free??), weather channel etc.

Not all institutions have tablets. OSCI does not have them, SRCI does. I think I heard that EOCI has them, but I'm not positive on that.

Email use is 3 cents a minute, no way that would make that free.

According to my friend at Snake, email via AccessCorrections is free - I think they were trying to keep the lines down at the kiosks, since prior to tablets, kiosks were the only way to send/receive emails.

Maybe it's different at different institutions? I can only speak to what my friend told me, obviously, since I'm not using the tablet.
