Default Mail from U.S. to Europe

Hi, I live in France, I have a friend in Polunsky. He usually writes every week or every ten days. I haven't had a letter from him in more than a month.

To those of you who are in Europe as well, have you gotten any letters from your friends incarcerated in the U.S.?

Can anyone tell me if the mail from the U.S. to Europe still works? It's very hard not hearing from him.

Thanks a lot.

Hi there, airmail between Europe and the United States is being delayed due to the planes not flying and the travel restrictions. Letters can take weeks and may not be sent at all.
If your pen pal does not have an email service you can use www.jmail.cc. you set up an account write your letter on their site and they print and send it for you.It costs a $1 so it can be cheaper than air mail. If you set up a mail box with them your pen pal can write to you via their mailbox and Jmail will scan the letter and email it to you. A lot of members on here use the service and they are reliable.

Hi Laura,
Letters to Germany have been delayed too. I got a letter dated March 30th only a few days ago, together with a letter dated April 10th. So don't worry, it just takes a while at the moment.

We are in the midst of a pandamic and everything is either closed or has slowed down... also in prison. Just be patient, it will start to flow again...
Your friend does not have JPay? I used to have a PenPal in Huntsville and he had JPay...

My penpal said he mailed a letter to me this week (on Wed 6th May), so I'll see how long it takes to arrive and let you all know here...

Well my husband airmailed me a letter on 04/04/2020 and it just arrived today. so it's taken just over five weeks to get here. I'm still waiting on four others that were airmailed the same time so we'll see. He sill hasn't gotten any of my letters but did receive the jmail ones within three days. So thanks Maytayah for the jmail link.

I'm from Germany and I haven't received a single letter since March. But i know he has never stopped writing, as I usually get mail from him twice a week.I asked my friends sister if she received anything from her brother and she said yes. I know that he is getting my letters. so basically all we can do is wait...

With all the disruption to air travel air mail letters are very delayed. There is nothing we can do but be patient. I hope you receive your mail soon.

okay - the letter arrived yesterday (12th)... the postmark was 4th, so he actually posted it two days earlier than he told me - but still - 8 days not too bad... it's about what it used to be before COVID-19.

I guess it depends on the actual prison... my penpals place are obviously still working to normal speed with outgoing mail... I sent him one last week also, and will see how long it takes for him to get it.

I just started using this with great results. https://ameelio.org/

It's free for now! They print and even print one picture and send it postal to the institution.
