Default NY Times Editorial,"Too Many Prisoners"

Today's NY Times editorial points out the deficiencies in the recent US Dept of Justice, and the Federal Sentencing Commission's reports that both criticized the current state of the federal bureau of prisons budget. Neither report offered any meaningful solutions to the current "throw away the key" sentencing fiasco, but this editorial does.

Nor does it mention adjusting its own policies on drug cases so it would put away fewer offenders not considered dangerous.

EXACTLY!

It seems change might be in the air - may it happen quickly!

The change will happen only when they run out of money. It may not be with the sole intention to help the inmates. The overcriminalisation is not limited to drig related incarcerations only. Change will happen when all indicted individuals demand a trial and not settle for plea bargain.

Yes, i think things like NON violent drug users should be treated with medical care not jail. This country has gone INSANE over locking people up! it makes laws that are easy to mess up on and stupid laws. WHY? simply because they make money off the offenders. They really don't care about safety etc..that's nonsense. It's all about money!
