Hello all, I just returned from my first visit at HDSP and it is an experience like no other and I have been to two other prisons. I would like to alert any ladies who have a wig, hairpiece, or extensions because they will not allow your visit. In addition, during pictures you are not allowed to be next to your loved one at all there must be a space otherwise your pictures can be confiscated. I am working on donating various products in the event that you have to remove your hair extensions ect. Please pm me for further details on my experience at High Dessert.

They are very strict- we have been there almost 3 years now- the picture stuff is so rediculous!! Hopefully you don't have to stay forever there cause most yards are always on ld... We are leaving- I really hope Corcoran is alittle better at least!

My friend and I are planning to visit High Desert. Our men are on C yard so we will only be allowed behind the glass for one hour. How does it work to get a visit? Is there only a certain number of behind the glass visits allowed at one time? Any information is helpful.

When i first started going to High Desert he was able to hold me, put his arm around me, and we were able to be close to eachother as long as his our hands where showing. Then out of no where they started saying we couldn't touch and there needs to be a space. I asked the guard what happened and he said someone ruined it for everybody...

Hello all!

There is a shuttle service that I am not sure many people know about and they leave from Sacramento Greyhound station every day (including holidays) between 12pm and 12:30pm and arrive in Susanville at around 4pm. Then they leave from Susanville everyday around 8:30am and arrive in Sacramento between 12pm and 12:30pm. The only part that is alittle questionable for some may be that they also transport those who are getting out of prison. I just used the service and there were released men on there and they were nothing but respectful and I had my son and they were appropriate. The driver tells them beforehand what the rules are too so that helps. Anyway for adults it is 110.00 roundtrip and for children it is 90.00 roundtrip. So, if you are interested you can call them at 530-257-5187 and let them know that Ladice recommended them and say hi to driver Dan if you remember.

That's correct unfortunately. These last few months have been good though because there have been Monday Holidays and they run everyday including major holidays.

My understanding is that if the yard is on lock-down whether they are usually contact or not they are behind the glass if on lock-down, but as Mrs. Kirk said you have to make an appointment for that. When you call the main Visiting hotline the 1800 number it will tell you the information as far as what number to call ect. Hopefully things work out for your visit.

Good Luck

My cousin was recently transferred to High Desert and I was approved to visit him while he was in Solano, can I still visit since I have been approved? I hear High Desert is very strict and I will be driving almost 8 hours so I do not want to be turned away.

Our friend was transferred from NKSP to HDSP, I believe our friend is a level 4, in yard B, if someone can direct me on what I need to do to visit I would be very grateful.

Is this a visit behind glass?
Can my husband and I take a photo with him? It says money on one site does this mean there are vending so we can all eat?
how is the dress code, I visit a friend at SQSP death row and they can be strict but not too bad.

Thank you again.

Planning on visiting next month with a friend, how does the visiting work, not sure if every prison is different. Do we line up outside of the prison? Can you make an appointment for a contact visit or is it first come, first serve. Ladies, any information is helpful.

No appointment necessary for a contact visit only non contact visits require an appointment. Yes they do line up outside the prison.

Nothing grey whatsoever!! Slacks were fine a month ago but there's this new guy up front and he doesn't want any grey in any of the clothing so stay away from that. They aren't really letting people through with colorful jeans anymore, unless they are super baggy. But other than that, its pretty basic. Some days they can be really easy, and other days they can be such jerks.
