From my understanding Ironwood, has become an ALL level 3, institution which will house GP & SNY. Calipatria is a level 4. They have started massive transfers in and out. More to follow in the next couple weeks/months.

They have been doing it for months now. A bus comes in about once every week or so.

It is not just that prison. Prisons all over CA are becoming a certain level of prison. CTF is becoming a level 2 so they are moving everyone else out. Ironwood is becoming a level 3 and Calipatria is a level 4. I am not sure of others, but people are getting transferred in an out all the time due to staff shortages as well.

Question Husband transferred to Ironwood

Benjamin was transferred from Wasco to Ironwood this past Monday. I looked at the prison web site, and the picture of it, looks like pure hell. Does anyone have Information of what this prison is like? I know its a level 3, and he is on "D" yard and in a dorm. I got a letter from him today, and he said he would probably be there for 1-2 years. I sure hope they transfer him closer to me and our kids. That is a 6 hour drive, and from what I have read from other posts about Ironwood, I have so many unanswered questions about it. So I will just leave it at that for now I guess. I understand it gets hotter then hell there. And it was 111 here where we are in San Luis Obispo County. Ouch~! So can anyone give there point of view about this prison? I haven't been notified of visiting yet, but his old counselor at Wasco told me today all his mail would transfer there. Thanks, Mary

GP = general population, the majority of inmates

SNY = sensitive needs yard, inmates who require a higher level of protected custody (gang dropouts, sex offenders, elderly/infirm, inmates with high profile cases)

You don't know the exact day that they transfer our LO's. Safety and security measures. So I have been told by my husband. He new he was being transferred from Wasco and called me the night before. Hope that is helpful. Once he gets there, I think they go through a reception like setting before they are moved to a reg. cell..
