Default Bop prisons being used for immigration arrestees.

At Victorville prison, 1,000 beds set aside to hold immigration detainees

VICTORVILLE — Federal prison and immigration authorities are cooperating to hold immigration detainees amid the Trump administration crackdown on illegal border crossings, officials said Thursday.

One-thousand beds in the Victorville Federal Correctional Complex are being set aside to keep detainees as part of inter-agency agreements, representing a significant share of 1,600 beds at Bureau of Prison facilities across the country for which U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has acquired access.

"The use of BOP facilities is intended to be a temporary measure until ICE can obtain additional long-term contracts for new detention facilities," Danielle Bennett, an ICE spokeswoman, said in a statement, "or until the surge in illegal border crossings subsides."

The staffing at Victorville (900 bureaucrats and only 400 corrections officers) is a photo of the federal government's usual operating polices, everywhere. Too many cooks and not enough soup. This zero tolerance rampage is even catching American citizens in it's net, even before they are able to hire the 5000 new border patrol agents they are looking for. The latest effort seems to include deporting children who were legally adopted as children, but who are now big enough to cage. Deported to a country where they were born, but haven't visited since they were infants.

Default ICE to send 1,600 immigration violators to federal prisons

https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry...b0040e2742f1c9

Quote:
Staff members at Federal Correctional Complex, Victorville, who spoke to HuffPost allege that initial medical screenings of the detainees were rushed and that comprehensive checkups for all the detainees will not be completed within the two-week period that’s standard procedure. They say so far this has resulted in an outbreak of scabies and a case of chicken pox among the detainees, as well as the potential for more widespread infectious disease.

...

Staffers held a protest outside the prison last week over the arrival of the detainees, holding signs that said, “Budget cuts will result in death!”

Sheridan OR Medium security FCI is receiving adult border crossing arrestees, and housing them with the general program federal prisoners. WTF. They should be in jails awaiting trial, not causing even more ruckus for the federal inmates.

Short on staff at Sheridan (and who knows how many other federal prisons), lets send hundreds of new zero tolerance border crossing prisoners there while they wait years to go to trial. Canada is the closest border, so I can't believe that anyone would leave there to come here now with Sessions on the rampage, so I bet the ones being sent to Sheridan are coming from Mexico after being arrested in CA, TX and AZ.

Default FBOP is getting 1600+ arrested border crossers.

This USA Today article reports that federal prisons will receive 1600 (or many more?) zero tolerance border crossers who were arrested but are waiting (years?) to go to trial. "ICE to send 1,600 immigration violators to federal prisons"
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...ons/683086002/

FCI Sheridan Medium is one for sure, and another article claims the federal prisoners are upset because the border crossers are being housed in general population cells. Bop is short on staff, causing widespread prison lockdowns, so why not add Session's folks to the inmate population too?

If they housed in county jails, the counties or states would have to pay for it. Federal issue =federal institutions from a legal stand point.

How are they going to handle the over crowding and lack of staff that is already out in news?

Apparently the Department of Defense has also been tasked with housing multi-thousands of border crossers in tents at military bases all over the country too.
