Default Questions on Big Muddy

Just found out my brother has been sent to Big Muddy. Looking to find out what you think of the facility. Is it true there is a separate wing for SOs? Can I go ahead and set up a Jpay account and put money on it?

Thanks for your help!

Default hi Marci

Hi Marci, my name is Nikki. I live in the Champaign Urbana area. my fiance' is in the Big Muddy River correctional facility as we speak and has been there now for a month, after being in the Urbana satalite jail, then sent up to statesville for blood work, and now down south. Where are you from?? I have set up A phone account for james. But u can call the phone account people. the number to call to set up a phone account is 1 217 346 9406. and speak to an operator about what to do. or u can call the facility to ask one of the officer's to help u. If you do not have the nmber down there, it's 1-618-437 5300. that atleast should help u. if u would like to talk more, feel free to contact me at my hot mail address. i'm new on here. so im learning all the basics on this prison stuff. shit happens ya know. anyway, its email address removed per PTO policy -please PM member i hope i helped u some what.

Nikki

As far as Big Muddy having a separate wing for SO's, I do not know. But I have heard that there are a good amount of SO's there.

I drive by the facility every day to and from work. The facility is thisclose to the interstate. The yard faces the road (as well as many of the cell houses), so when the inmates are able to go outside, they are able to see the cars wizzing by. And whenever I happen to drive by while they are out on the yard, I like to lay on my horn and wave. Seems silly, but I just like for them to know that they're not forgotten.

I don't know anyone in the facility, but with the limited knowledge I have, it's just like any other medium security facility. It has it's drawbacks, of course, but that's with every prison. The place doesn't seem to be on lockdown much, which is a huge blessing. I have heard that the mail tends to run slow, but again, that happens at a lot of facilities.

You can go ahead and send him money through JPay.And if you are waiting on a phone call from him, you'll have to wait until he calls you before you can set up your phone account through Consolidated.

Hang in there Marci. I hope you hear from your brother soon.

Thanks for all your input. Still haven't heard from him; put $s on his account through Jpay..as did my mother, but I just haven't heard from him even by letter since he left menard. Thank you all for the info... Miss A, I will have to tell him you lay on the horn, so if he is out there he can wave at you...if they are allowed to do that!

I have heard from him. I can't tell you how wonderful it was to hear his voice over the phone! He actually knows some people! Some of them were in the same county facility as he was was. His celly is older and keeps to himself most of the time. My brother shares his TV with his celly. His money finally all caught up with him. My mother has been able to go see him a couple of times and hopefully this weekend she will be able to go and take his son to see him. It will be good for both of them. His meds were changed at Menard and he has requested to see a psych 3 times so he can get them changed back, as he is unable to sleep from the higher dosage of anti anxiety..never happened so he refused meds. Now they wake him up at 3 a.m. to make him sign he is refusing meds. So if he is asleep, he isn't after that. That part is a mess, but other than that he is doing well.

Were you able to make it to your visit? We actually got slammed with 6 inches of snow the day after Christmas!!!! I moved to NC to get away from that kind of weather! LOL!

Yeah that is the messed up thing there that they have to get up at 3am for meds and if I remember right breakfast is at 510! Yes I did make it to see my husband...we got 9 in. of snow between Christmas Eve and Christmas but the roads were clear by the time we went on the 29th and they only had an inch or 2 of snow there.

Butterflyfish, it will take awhile for him to get the pin #. I think it took about 11 days for my LO to get the pin # to call me. And Big Muddy isn't on lockdown as far as I know. I talked to my LO last night so they definitely weren't on lockdown then.
I'm sure you'll hear from him any day now

Forgot to add that the mail is really backed up there right now. You should get a letter from him pretty quickly, but your letters to him could take up to two weeks right now.
