Hey girl Im not sure how up to date this is and Im hoping it helps

To Get A Family Visit
  • The inmate will put in an application to his counselor for family visits.
  • Once he is approved, he will be given a set of papers, which will include a list of foods and instructions on where to send the money.
  • Once you send in the check and completed food list, your husband will be given a date.
  • The family visiting CO will send you a letter confirming the dates and will provide you with a list of things that you need to take with you for your family visits.
  • You must sign the letter confirming that you will be there and mail it back.
Family Visiting Processing (Check In)

  • Old Folsom family visits are 3 nights and 4 days.
  • Either from Sunday to Wednesday or Thursday to Sunday.
  • You will be processed in the building where the regular visit are processed.
  • You DO NOT need a number.
  • Arrive by 9:15am. So when the CO comes out for the 9:30am group, you can go in with that group. Let the CO know you are there for a family visit.
  • Once inside, fill out a visiting slip.
  • You will need to provide the CO with your original certified marriage license, ID and visiting slip. (They will keep your ID)
  • YOU MUST BE CHECKED IN BY 10AM. DO NOT BE A MINUTE LATE!!
  • At 10am the FV CO will call the front desk and verify that you all are there. (There are 4 families in each group, everyone has to be there)
  • Once the FV CO has confirmation that you are there, one officer will drive out to get your food for your visit and another officer, usually Sparksman will come up to the main processing building and meet you all there.
  • When it is time to process your bags, you will see the CO's putting up a partition around the table near the metal detector. Where the visitors for FTTF and Camp get processed.
  • You will be called one at a time.
  • When called, take your bags up to the table and wait for the CO to tell you to empty out your bags.
  • They will go through everything and ask you to repack your bags in front of them. If your products are not clear, they will ask you to pour it into a clear travel size container in front of them.
  • Anything you can not take in, they will store for you in a locker. (they will provide you with a lock)
  • Once your bags are checked, they will place it under the table. You will not be allowed to touch it.
  • After everyone bags are processed, you will have to sit and wait for the CO to return with your food. (It could be a while. I had to wait till about 11:30am)
  • Once the CO returns with your food, you will have to clear the metal detector in the processing building.
  • After that you will be taken to the washroom and patted down. (Asked to flip your hair, open your mouth, run you fingers under your bra straps etc)
  • Once everyone is clear you will grab your bags and walk out the back door and get into a van.
  • The van will take you for a short 2 minute scenic drive around the prison to another check point
  • You will have to get out of the Van at this check point (you leave your stuff inside) the guard with verify everyones identification and check the van.
  • After that, the gates will open and you will be driven down to your "executive suites" where you will be greeted by your honey.
  • Your honey will be able to come out to the van and help take in all the grocery bags and your personal belongings.
Executive Suites...

The suites contain 2 bedrooms (one with queen size bed, the other with 2 singles), a bathroom (toilet, sink, tub with shower), living room (sofa, couch, coffee table, alarm clock, TV, DVD player) and a kitchen (sink, full stove/oven, microwave, fridge, toaster, blender, plates, cups, saucers, spoons, forks. NO knives, pots, pans etc)

There is a small area where you can bring out chairs and sit outside in the front of the suites.

**Be sure to tell your honey, since they get there at 10am to check everything before you arrive. Check to see that the microwave, oven/stove, TV, DVD works. Make sure you have hot water. If something is not working, make sure you tell the CO's as soon as they drive up with you. Other wise you will be stuck with whatever is wrong. Don't think they will be coming by to fix anything during your visit.

Your Family Visit:

Once you have unloaded and have all your belongings, the CO will lock up the gates and you stay there till it is time to check out.

There are no rules or lights out or anything like that. You really do get to enjoy some real quality time with your man. So enjoy it ladies!

Counts
We had 6 counts.
  • 4pm
  • 10pm
  • 12am
  • 2am
  • 4am
  • 6am
Sometimes they will be 15-30 minutes early/late. The officer will call and the inmate is required to answer the phone. Sometimes the officer will just let the phone ring once and they will hang up, other times the officer will actually tell you "count time".

As soon as the phone rings, the inmate is required to (answer the phone) and go directly to door and stand in the door way. An officer will either walk up or drive up and the inmate will have to say his last name and his CDC number. Some officers will call from the tower and you will have to wait a minute or two for them to come up, other officers will call you from outside your door, so as soon as you open the door they are already there.

The inmate does not have to wear anything in particular. He can go for counts in whatever he is already wearing. (Just make sure he is wearing something..)

DON'T TAKE YOUR SWEET TIME GETTING TO THE DOOR! IF THEY HAVE TO WAIT A MINUTE, YOU WILL BE TERMINATED!!

**An idea would be to bring the mattress from the bedroom to the living room. That way you guys are only steps away from the door and the phone. You dont want to fall asleep in the bedroom and miss a call.

Family Visiting Check Out Process:

They usually tell you that check out is at 9am, however they have always shown up between 8am and 8:30am. So be ready. A delay for check out can also cause you to be terminated for future visits.

Make sure you have done the following before the CO's arrive (so before 8am):

Bedrooms:
  • Make sure that you pack all your belongings.
  • Fold all the beddings and place them on the coffee table in the living room
Bathroom
  • Take out trash to the bin outside of your suit.
  • Wipe/Sanitize sink, toilet and tub (they will provide you with cleaning products)
  • Mop floor
Living Room
  • Make sure all furniture is in its proper place
  • Wipe down coffee table
Kitchen
  • All dishes must be washed, dried and put away. No dishes are to be left in the dish rack.
  • Wipe down microwave and fridge (inside and out)
  • All grocery left over must be either thrown away or packed up ready to go with your baggage. Inmates are not allowed to take anything back with them.
  • Counters and tables need to be wiped down
  • Floor must be mopped
  • Trash taken out to large bin outside your door.
At approximately 8:30am the van will pull up in front of the suites and the CO's will open the gates to let you out. You will take all your grocery and baggage and put it in the van and you will have 2 minutes to say good bye. (while the CO's check the place).

Once everything is checked, your honey will be walked back (the path we walk down at East Gate to regular visiting) and you will be driven off in the van in the opposite direction. (Have your tissue papers ready..).

You will again go through the check point at the gates. You will have to get out and they will check your identification and return your ID's, check the van and you will be driven back to the parking lot. (If you had to store anything in the lockers make sure you remember to get it)

What to take:

You will be given a list that will list items you can take with you. Here are a list of some stuff that you will need and stuff that I took in and had no problems with. (I have also provided some brand names for those of you who may have trouble finding such products)

General Items
  • 1 Gym Bag/Duffel Bag - It doesn't have to be too small and can have more than one compartment, just not a lot.
  • 1 Dish Soap - clear container
  • 1 Dish Sponge (the green and yellow one)
  • 2 Dish Towels
  • 2 Hand Towels
  • 1 unopened roll of aluminum foil (Do not open it, the CO will open it and remove the metal part)
Personal Hygiene
  • 2 toothbrushes (one for you and one for your husband)
  • 2 clear toothbrush holders
  • 1 toothpaste - in clear squeeze bottles (crest)
  • 1 bottle clear shampoo - (panteen)
  • 1 bottle conditioner - I took in panteen and squeezed it into a clear travel size bottle)
  • 1 bar soap - (small travel size Dove in sealed box)
  • 1 clear bottle body wash (Victoria Secrets)
  • 1 bottle clear hand soap (bath and body)
  • 1 bath puff
  • 2 bath towels
  • 2 wash clothes
  • 1 shower shoes (DON'T FORGET THESE!!)
  • 1 pair slippers
  • 2 razors (his&her) (gillette)
  • 1 tube shaving gel (There are days, you will be allowed to take in the travel size shaving gel can and other days you will not. So to be safe try to get the gel in a tube. I took in Gillette)
  • 2 Deodorant-clear Gel type (his&her)
  • 1 bottle/tube body lotion (victoria secrets - I poured it into a clear travel size bottle
  • 1 clear bottle of perfume
  • 1 clear bottle of aftershave
  • 1 clear tube hair gel (Dove)
  • 1 clear pump hairspray (Dove)
  • 1 hairbrush or comb
  • 2-3 hair ties and clips (no bobby pins)
  • 1 travel size Q-tips box
  • 1 clear bottle lube
**for those ladies who will have a menstrual cycle during their visit, please keep in mind that you are not allowed to take in your own pads/tampons. You will have to ask the CO's and they will give you enough to last you the visit. You might want to bring in a sealed package, just in case they run out and might then let you take in yours.

Makeup
Your containers can not have any metal. I was able to take in:
  • 1 lipstick
  • 1 foundation/concealer in clear tube (mac)
  • 1 liquid eyeliner (mac)
  • 1 eyeshadow (mac-loose powder)
  • 1 mascara (mac)
Clothing

Lingeries/Bras - There are days you are allowed to take in bras with underwires and other days where a new CO will go by the books and not allow it. So be safe and take a back up or you will have to remove the metal from your bra.

Since you will be lounging all day long, dont really worry too much about dressy clothes. Just take comfy clothes and stay away from the color that resemble the inmates.

You are allowed to wear pretty much anything you want at family visiting. As long as it is packed. Tang tops, shorts, skirts, halter tops are all allowed. Your shoes dont have to have a backing on it. Remember you will be required to go through the metal detector and all normal visiting rules will apply at processing.

Alright, I think I have covered pretty much everything. If anyone has any new updated information, please keep this forum updated as the rules are always changing. If anyone has any other questions, feel free to ask! I will be more than happy to help anyone and everyone out!

we are looking into other prisons when my husband becomes a level two in may and are curious where the food comes from for a family visit. Do the groceries come from a store or from a company where the packages are ordered?

Go online to Visitorreservations .cdcr.ca.gov. It will ask u what prison and of course u choose Folsom. Follow the prompts. To ensure u get an appt go online at midnight on Sunday If for some reason u can't sometimes they release more appts on Monday morning. Throughout the week u can check periodically to see if any opening come up. Hope this helps

Hey girl, hoping u got the page in a pack that ur man needs to fill out on what u all eat during those days...If not u NEED that and send it back to the FV Sargent along with a 150 dollar money order.

Lots of luck and I hope that helps. But remember u only get FV every 3months and could be longer sometimes 4, because they only have 4familys that get to have them every Thrus-Sun or Sun-Weds. Hopin that helps.

If u need any more help, Ill do my best.

Does he get the application from the marriage coordinator? If so how long does it take for him to get the application and how long does it take to be approved?
