I answered with I'm not really worried about it, but thats because I know how my hubby is. We've been married 15 years and he has always worked. He can't stand not having something to do. That is just how he's made.

FYI. There is a tax credit for hiring ex-felons up to one year out after release.

Work Opportunity Tax Credit

Definately a good selling point to employers out there! Spread the word!

I don't want to rush my LO. I want him to enjoy the fresh air and the freedom when he gets out. I want him to go around visiting his family, catching up with old friends, and just eating at every restaurant that he wants to make up for lost time.

Fortunately, he is/was very fiscally responsible, so he will have money and a paid-off vehicle waiting on him when he gets out.

He will probably start looking within days even though I won't push him b/c he is just that way. He is studying both job fields that he is experienced with so that he stays up to date on them.

I'm not really worried about him finding a job when he comes home. I've talked to a few people I know and he has some promising opportunities. There are a couple places here that are currently hiring (always hiring) & they 'love' hiring felons...they get some kind of tax break for it. Try to look into some factories around...alot of them get that 'tax break'.

months months would be nice but I don't expect anything for at least a year. He believes that he will be working within the 1st month and that would be nice but I am a real thinking person. I can't live on wishes and dreams.

I have friends who are looking out for jobs for him but who really knows what will happen. We will be fine. I would rather him go to college anyway.

As soon as he gets back, there should be no problem with that because he has a job waiting on him. Bills dont pay themselves.

He has 1 week before back to work. But honestly I doubt he even waits that long. We are blessed that he has a guaranteed job to come home to.

He is my only and forEvEr

JOB APPLICATIONS ASK IF A PERSON HAS BEEN CONVICTED IN THE LAST 5 YRS. NOT WHEN THEY GOT OUT OF JAIL, ONLY IF IN THE LAST 5 YRS WERE THEY CONVICTED.

So if your LO has been down over 5 yrs it is a Non-Issue. And when an employer asks why they have no work history for however many years they can say they were doing . ie: personal issues, being educated (if they were taking classes), many other acceptable reasons.

There is no excuse for a Felon to not get work if his/her conviction is over 5 yrs old, unless the position requires a background check for security purposes and they need to be bonded.

I'm honestly not worried about him coming home and finding work right away. I push other options on him more than coming home and working. I push going to college or a trade program on him. He will receive financial aid for the program and to help with some living expenses. Plus, his happiness is more important to me than working an unhappy job that pays meager wages.

I know alot of organizations stray away from hiring felons, its difficult enough looking for a job with a record however with some research in your city or area, im sure there are some places that will hire felons, i believe some are given a tax cut. im not entirely sure but its deff sometihng to look into

He's been on plenty of interviews and even worked two or three jobs for a few days: the first one said they couldnt keep him because his bg check came back: although he was COMPLETELY HONEST in his interview: the second was just a job he had worked prior to being incarcerated and he let him come back to fill in for someone, but he didnt have enough room to give him any more hours after a month: the third was selling meat off the back of a truck, he worked there about 3 weeks with NO PAY!!! it was completely commission based-although the first week was supposed to be paid training. He would work 10-11 hr days, with no pay, so he ended up spending more money being at work than not.

So realistically speaking it could be a few days, to months, to even a year, just be ready to continue being the bread earner at the beginning. Just encourage him! He will get there whether it be one week, one month, one year!~!

JUST PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT PUSH THE ISSUE!! MOST MEN FEEL BAD ENOUGH THEY ARE NOT WORKING, so please just encourage that they find work, and do not throw it up in their face (even though no one intends to it just happens).
Thank you for the word of advice: we all need to encourage our men. It's a rough thing living out here.

depends on the job. some ask from date of release, some simply ask "EVER CONVICTED OF A CRIME".....(which means anything, ever) To be honest I have never seen a job that asks, ask for less than 7 years anyways. (most ask for life)
