Default USDB - Leavenworth

Does anyone have a relative/friend in the US Disciplinary Barracks (the "Castle") at Leavenworth?

there are 4 prisons in the Leavenworth, KS area. One is the military barracks and the other 3 are federal/state. You might try accessing BOP websites or other govt agency sites to find out if there are plans to close facilities. A "Google" search might turn up something also.

Yes, I have a son that's been there for a little over 5 years. Do you have someone there yourself?

My heart goes out to you. If he is in the same building that my son is in, my son will help him to adjust. (if you call it adjusting) Which part of the service was your son in? I still can't beleive my son is there. I will be flying out to see him in September for our second visit.

K.C., there is a new forum now for Military Prisons. It is in the Federal forum. Maybe others will find their way to it, too.

My boys' dad is there, and has been there for nearly 6 years now-on a 45 year sentence.
We haven't been able to visit due to finances.

Hi Brenda! Glad you found our forum! Welcome to our little group. I'm sorry to hear of your situation and can fully understand the limitations finances put on visitation. Keep up with us here and if there's anything you care to share, or a question you want to ask, let us know and I'm sure we'll all do our best to do whatever!

Keep the faith.

is USP Leavenworth just for military???..my son is in kansas now in county...and he is being sentenced on Nov 24...he is asking for a boot camp but i have no idea what it may be called..he may have to go to a federal prison..but i would think that they would bring him closer to home....florida...he did bank robbery..and was on fed probation...and the feds have already come to see him and say stuff..so i really don't know where he might end up ..but he did say alot of other bank robbers have gone to boot camp.. any answers are apprieciated

Samiam,
USP Leavenworth is federal, the USDB (Disciplinary Barracks) at Ft. Leavenworth is strictly military prisoners. There are 4 facilities in Leavenworth, KS (state, federal, military, and one other I'm not sure of). Hope things work out for your son and he gets to be closer to home. Isn't there a boot camp in FL? Maybe he can get a federal transfer? I think the hardest part of this is having all these questions that no one can really answer!

Keep the faith.

yes that is the hardest part...and there may be a boot camp in florida..but for some reason..kansas says he has to stay there for his crime that he committed there...i don't know...i just asked a question of fed and state crimes and it seems bank robbery is fed....but his g/f if she doesn't get parole will go to a state prison in kansas. i hope she gets sorry probation she is first time offender and preg...and it seems to me kansas doesn't want to spend any money on medical care so...anyway thanks
