For federal inmates it can take a few hours to a few days. Its much faster than snail mail though.

Sometimes 30mins, sometimes an hour but it's pretty fast. We email about 5-6 times a day.

My fiance is at Redgranite and we use the email system daily, we really like it. Sometimes it takes as little as 20-30 minutes for an email to be delivered/received, but other times it takes 24-36 hours. We have experienced both time frames.
For example...yesterday he sent me an email at 10:10am and I received it at 10:30am; but then last night he said he emailed me at like 7pm and it's 5pm the next day and I still haven't gotten it yet. Even with the delays we still like to use the email system, it's a cheap and fun way to communicate. We have just learned to not put anything time sensitive in the emails because we are unsure as to how quickly they will be delivered.
He uses an email kiosk at RGCI, he can only access the email system once every 4 hours so typically he gets to send 2-3 emails per day. He can only be on the kiosk for 15 minutes each time, too, so each 4 hour period he can only send 1 or 2 short emails. He said there is talk about the guys being able to buy tablets someday and then if he had his own tablet, he could email as often as he would like to.

The email has turned into he'll for me. It's too easy and cheap to send angry and abusive letters. He doesn't think before he types. It's bad in the way social media is because you it takes little effort and cost. I just blocked my guy last week. Couldn't tolerate it any longer.

That's not anything my husband and I have issues with.

If someone was abusive towards I wouldn't be around.

My fiance said he just learned this week that the emails are reviewed right at the prison where they are at so I'm sure it depends on their staffing levels and who's job it is to review them as to how quickly they get approved and delivered. This past weekend we experienced quite a delay in getting emails delivered, we went almost 48 hours before emails were delivered either way...that sucked but we are still very thankful to have the email system as a way to communicate.

It's all over the place as to when they come through I have had them come through at 4 am.

I work from home and get up in the early hourse to work before my kids get up.

But we are enjoying the emails. He only gets to get on 4 times a day . or once ever 4 hours.
