Hello all. I just checked my email and missed the CARES call last night with Jennifer Schaffer. Did she mention anything new with the Youth Offender Parole process? They are severely behind on 260/261 hearings, and I would love to know what was said, if anything. Is there anywhere else that I can hear the call? Thanks!

I've listened to the first 40 mins and I'm taking a break for the sake of my blood pressure.

She did give some insight into the stats of YOP and the standards for parole grantment. She also talked about the way the Board is prioritizing the schedule. According to Schaffer they are "prioritizing their resources and scheduling those they believe to be most likely to be found suitable" and that, in their opinion, those will be inmates housed on lower level yards.

I take issue with that on several levels. One, that's dismissive of upper level inmates who have worked against the odds to program successfully and two, the schedule reflects something somewhat different. When randomly pulling dates for YOP hearings, I've found several at Level 3 and 4 institutions who have yet to reach their eligibility date and yet they are on the schedule.

She also quotes that between Jan 2014 and Jan 2018, 6,350 youth offenders have been scheduled, resulting in 1,092 grants.
