Default New to Allred TX Prison Unit

My husband was just transferred to Allred Unit. Is there anything I need to know that's different from other units? How is visitation? Is the food ok? Medical treatment (he's diabetic)? Any info would be helpful. Thanks!

My husband was at Allred for over two years. It is a good unit. My husband said it was one of the best in Texas. He has been in eleven years so he should know. It is one of the friendlier units-good and bad to that. My hubby doesn't have any long-term medical needs so I can't say anything as far as their medical department, when he did have needs they were met though.

My guy has been there for over 5 years. He says things aren't too bad (aside from the heat). He's one of those that doesn't like to go into specifics though (despite my objections, he looks at it as his way of trying to protect me), so I can't really elaborate on their side of it.

As for my observations... Visitation is alright. This may be the case with all the units, but you see the same guards over and over again, and a lot of them can be pretty nice. The metal detector used to be no big deal, but they've really ramped up the sensitivity. I used to be able to get through without worrying about the underwire issue, but that's no longer the case. Again, this may be the norm throughout TX.

The food is the usual junk food variety. Some drink machines, a sandwich machine, and chip/candy machines. I know they go without a lot, but still it's hard to watch them consume so much at each sitting.

As for observation during visits, we've only been warned once (knock on wood) for kissing too long (30 seconds - what can I say? It was our first in almost 2 decades, so we couldn't help ourselves). Since then we've kept it at a reasonable length and they haven't said anything further.

I'm interested to see what others think of the place. It'd be nice to get some different perspectives (both inside and out).

I'm new to the unit too. My hubby was transferred there a few months back but since I live in Houston I haven't been able to see him. Good luck with everything!

I am looking for wives to ride with me to allred and share expenses, I live in Lufkin, 100 miles north of Houston. I always leave on friday and come back on sunday evening. Thanks

I heard the same thing about care packages. Are they going to start this in November? Who can we check with? Also heard that now they are being real strict with the items each person has. Consumables have to be used within 60 days or they take them away. Sounds like BS to me, but I wonder if it's true. This guy had his deodarent taken away because it wasn't used up in the 60 days. Heard that they are going to take away their sweetener packages if they're not used up either. Makes no sense to me. Just trying to find out if it's true.........

iM RECENTLY NEW TO ALLRED AS WELL. i JUST GOT A LETTER YESTERDAY FROM MY MAN. i WAS SURPRISED. HE WAS AT DARRINGTON BUT HE GOT INTO SOME TROUBLE THERE AND THEY SENT HIM TO ALLRED. hE SAID THEY HAVE BEEN GIGING HIM TROUBLE WITH HIS PROPERTY. tHEY LOST ALL OF IT EXCEPT HIS PICTURES...HIS PICTURES MEAN MORE THAN THE WORLD TO HIM BECAUSE THEY'RE OF HIS MOM WHO PASSED SOME YEARS AGO. tHEY WERE SUPPOSE TO INVENTORY HIS PROPERTY BUT HE WAS TOLD THE PROPERTY OFFICER WASNT IN THAT DAY AND THAT HIS PROPERTY WOULD BE INVENTORIED THE NEXT DAY AND THE AND THEN GIVEN TO HIM, SO THEN THEY TOOK ALL HIS PROPERTY FROM HIM AND PLACED IT IN AN UNKNOWN LOCATION. sINCE THEN HES SPOKEN TO SEVERAL PEOPLE ABOUT HIS PROPERTY, BUT THEY ONLY GAVE BACK HIS PICTURES. NO ONES CAN GIVE HIM AN ANSWER AS TO WHERE HIS PROPERTY WENT. SO HE FILED A GRIEVANCE.
HES JUS TRYN TO LAY LOW AND KEEP TO HIMSLEF.
ANY SUGGESTIONS AS TO WHAT I CAN DO TO HELP?

My man is at Allred Unit, I haven't herd anything bad,but I just started writing him in April. The mail situations can get a lil hairy and calling to the mailroom is like talking to children. All in all they say it's like daycare for adults and I believe it. If anyone has new information about the online commissary for the Allred Unit please message me and let me know. Thanks.
