Default Flagler County Jail

The Flagler County Jail has lifted its ban on inmates receiving letters, after a lawsuit was filed by the ACLU. Apparently the two sides reached an agreement.

This outcome is not unexpected, after the new Sheriff ranted to the media when the suit was filed that he wished the ACLU had talked to him first about reviewing his predecessor's policies before filing suit. It was obvious he didn't like the policy. He had previously been sheriff and had allowed letters during his previous term.

Here's a much more lengthy article with the history of this issue and explaining more fully what has taken place with the settlement:

Banning letters to jail inmates is pretty close to the former USSR gulag policy of "deprived of the right to correspond"
