Default CA prison's dining halls subject of lawsuit/Updated!

SACRAMENTO — Maggots and mice have fallen onto inmates’ dining tables at a California state prison where holes in the roof also allow rain and bird droppings to seep through and streak the walls, according to an inmate lawsuit that charges the state isn’t moving fast enough to repair deteriorating prisons.
California has committed $260 million over four years to repair leaking roofs and clear dangerous mold at more than two dozen deteriorating prisons where the cost of overdue maintenance is pegged at more than $1 billion.

My last visit they had to throw out the condiment packets on the table because we noticed that rats had chewed into them. We kept waiting for one to jump out of the vending machine at someone. Lol

Definitely not just those two facilities nor just the dining halls. Our visiting room has huge places where water damage has left holes in the ceiling and when it rains heavily, water pours into the some of the upper tier cells. No air in the visiting room, either. Really nice when it's 110+ out. They have a maintenance list longer than a twenty year budget. Here's an idea-- work harder to shrink population so you can appropriate funds to create safe prisons.

Well they closed the dining hall.

So gross!!!
And a shame it took a lawsuit

SACRAMENTO — A judge this week ordered California officials to close a prison dining hall where mice, maggots and rainwater contaminated with bird droppings have been entering through a leaky roof.
Kings County Superior Court Judge Donna Tarter gave officials two weeks to stop using the dining hall at the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility in Corcoran.
