Default Help need info about Jackson

My son was sent there yesterday. He has medical issues that require life sustaining daily medications. How can I be sure he is getting those? How long before he will be able to call me? Can I call someone to inquire? Im so broken and scared for his health....

You can call the chaplain and you can call medical. You may not be able to receive information from them about his health or care. He needs to sign a HIPAA form to release information to you.

But you can give them information. You can also round up information from his doctor(s) and send that to the medical team there.

Prisons really don't like being sued. Especially not for allowing someone to die from what amounts to medical neglect. They're usually pretty good about keeping people under careful medical watch. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen, but it's rare.

Hang in there, this will all settle out soon. Don't forget to BREATHE.

Things will settle out over time. The beginning is the absolute hardest most crazy making part of it all.

Just remember that things will get better from here.

Jackson is the diagnostic prison where everyone goes to be evaluated before being moved to their more permanent location. They're usually there less than a month. They ask the people their history, family history, medical history, etc. If he was on meds before going to Jackson & they're aware, they will see to it he gets them. Our son was there over 2 weeks before he could call. They usually move before there is allowed visitation. Here is a link to the info on Jackson with a phone #. http://www.dcor.state.ga.us/Faciliti...g-class-prison
I don't know where you are in GA but there is Family Day in Forsyth, GA on July 12. That is a great chance to meet officials & ask questions. Here is a link to the info. You have to be on his approved visitation list so hopefully he will do that ASAP.

The GA website has some information on phone accounts. See the bottom of this page: http://www.prisonpro.com/content/geo...ing-money-mail GTL will be the phone provider.

I would start by calling GTL to find out how the system works.

I know it's all overwhelming when you first start the process. I promise things will settle eventually - it won't be like this forever.

Just wondering if your son is still there or if he has already been moved somewhere else. My husband is still sitting in the county jail waiting to get transferred to Jackson and he has been in county for 5 weeks now. We are just ready to get this process moving.
