Default 5 more months of parole to max date & stopped showing up to report to PO

So a good friend of mine stopped showing up to parole. He has 5 months left to go. He was telling me a rumor where he was that was after that max out date, they can't put him back in. That it's done. That that's an Indiana thing. It was for a minor crime he was previously in a level 1. Some check fraud thing. Is this true? So in 5 months after his max out date he can't be picked up and sent back? Please good information I'm trying to minimize the damage to the family thank you. I'm hoping he's right

I'll admit that I'm not familiar with Indiana, but normally the clock for parole stops when the offender absconds. So, as far as I know he will not be discharged from parole unless and until his PO files the paperwork....and IMHO, the PO will not do that if the offender just up and quits reporting. So, yes, as I understand it he can (and most likely will) be picked up...sooner or later.

As with patchouli, I am not familiar with Indiana but concur that time generally stops when the warrant issues. What can be in play is that sanction options may be limited if, after the hearing process, a decision is made not to revoke the period of supervision.

By example, on a hearing here in Texas conducted after the presumptive discharge date, it is all or nothing. You are either revoked and going back to prison or you are continued on supervision which has the net effect of discharging the sentence. Intermediate sanctions are NOT an option in those cases.

Absconding supervision is about the stupidest thing someone can do on supervision outside of committing a new offense.
