One very important rule that was explained during orientation is to watch your speed once you go through the guard gate. The grounds are monitored by the Air Force. My b/f said if I get a speeding ticket I must drive to MacDill Air Force Base to pay it. They cannot be mailed in.

They seem to have something against white clothes also. The main unit sent me away once because they could see my bra strap through a white t-shirt with a cute teddy bear on the front.

Work Camp :

The work camp sent me away once because I had on white pants that they said were see through.

They are also just starting to enforce the "kiss & hug" rule. When you get there and when you leave. Nothing in between.

They take your ID and file it in a box according to the inmates last name. They do not give you anything to take inside. You just go into the inside VP and tell the person at the desk who you are there to visit. The inside is pretty big, but the outside only has 10 picnic tables.

The visiting room has 2 vending machines for sandwiches, etc. 1 for snacks and 1 each for Pepsi/Coke products and 1 coffee machine. They have recently opened a Canteen window that either the inmate or visitor can make purchases. These purchases are at the same price the inmates pay, which is a good thing. 44 cents is a lot better than 80 cents in the machine for potato chips.

LODGING:

There is an EconoLodge in Avon Park, but I don't have any information on it.
I just found a Quality Inn 4 1/2 miles from downtown AP, in Sebring. I'm gonna check that one out soon. I'll post again when I have more information on this one.

Visiting Hours are Saturday an Sunday from 9AM - 3PM
The outside visiting park closes at 2:30 and everyone must go inside for the remainder of their visit. I have encountered this at the Main Unit and the Work Camp.

Lady Mel, Avon Park is a lot better than most Florida Prisons. It is very laid back. I am glad that he is there and not somewhere else. Is your best friend at the main unit or work camp?

My boyfriend is in Avon Park. He said that since he has to be in prison he is happy to be there. He likes it.

My Baby is also at Avon Park. He gets out of confinement next week and I hope thing go well. He only has a few more months to go and we don't need any more upsets. I wish we could visit him but we are here in Texas and we will have to wait until he can come home.

I was wondering if anyone heard of Charlie Crist taking away the weight pile and other rights at this prison andif anyone had contacted the govenor to complain? I sent an email and called the govenpr's office and the officer under the govenor. I feel that they endure enough physical and mental abuse and I know my husband has to release tension and I rather it be onthe weight pile than on another inmate.

Hi, I just joined and saw your post. My son is at Avon Park work camp and it's as good a place to be if you have to be in prison. CO's are decent & respectful, visitation park is nice & has a canteen & inside/outside areas to sit & walk, no special routine to get in just ID & proper clothing. Maybe the main unit is about the same, hope this info helps.

Hi,
My son got transferred there by request about a year ago. Compared to some other facilities, this one seems to be one of the better camps. My son likes it there for the most part. The positive is that the inmates seem to get more respect. There is never any major fighting or trouble of any kind. Everyone seems to get along. On the negative is that they are more strict with regards to following the rules. I would advise your loved one to get a feel for what is not tolerated that might be acceptable elsewhere. My son got called on something that was ok elsewhere, I don't remember what. As for the visitors park, I have only been there once due to the distance I have to travel (I live in Virginia). What I experienced is those that visit regularly arrive early and line line up underneath the canopy. There may be a clip board to sign up. It seems to take them a while to process people through. That was my only complaint. There is a small room inside and an outside covered seating area with a small grassy area. Please PM me if you want me to find out anything else from my son.
Debbie

Default AVON PARK CI and VISITATION

Hello everyone - I need current information about AVON PARK CI. The process for visitation - how and what time to get there to get in early and anything that is particular about this facility for visitation.

DOC through us a curve so have to catch up.

Any info would be helpful.

Have you checked the Region forums? This information may be there. I can't speak for Avon CI but at the prison my husband is at they start checking in about 8:15 a.m. EST and visitation starts at 9:00 a.m. They boot you out at 3 p.m. sharp.

Thanks wifeofMichael

I did check the forums but the info posted on AVON PARK CI is fairly dated, so I'm looking for some current info about this facility. I realize that the official sign-in is 8:15 AM but many locations visitors arrive much earlier than that to 'line-up' for sign-in.

Thanks again and hope someone can elaborate on this place for me.

I wish you the best of luck with this place. My husband has been there for over 4 years and we are going through hell right now trying to get him out of there. There is one captain there you can talk to that is actually pretty nice, and will help you if you need answers, that is the only person I ever get any kind of info from. If you visit there, do not talk to any of the male officers, don't even look at them, they try to start trouble and they will go and tell your husband all kinds of crap when you leave, they have had serveral complaints from visitors about the way the officers try to flirt and stuff. If you want to know anything feel free to send me a pm and I will be happy to fill you in, I have quite a bit of experience with this place.
