I've stayed at the Best Western Liberty Inn and have been very happy. Rooms are about $70-80.

Rodeway is good, I don't mind staying there to save a little money some times but Best Western is definitely better if you don't mind paying a little more. It feels a lot safer because the rooms are inside and Rodeways rooms are outside. At Best Western they have Denny's and Jack n Box in the same parking lot, so you're at walking distance to both. You also get 10% discount at Denny's if you show your Best Western or Rodeway room key. Good luck and enjoy your visit.

Default RE: Visiting Issues

I have a question and not sure to how much people this might apply. My LO is in B yard. Iíve been really lucky to not have many problems with the COís and/or many problems going in. Other than having to cut off the metal button from the jeans that the metal detector hadnít had a problem before I guess itís been good..

Well my questions has anyone had problems getting checked in?

According to Title 15 the state recognized the value of inmate visitation as a mean of increasing and maintaining family and community connections and preparing inmates for successful release and rehabilitation and the institutions is as accommodating as possible for use to be able to visit.

My guy said quite a few of the guys had written up complaints with nothing being done about their visitors having problems going in for one thing or another. One of the things he said the guys are say happen is they have the visitor change their paints go back to get rechecked to then be told the top also needs to be changed by doing this they just are taking time away from the visit. I've been doing this for 3 years and still worry that what was good one weekend is not going to be good the next week.

I know one of the things I donít like is 8 am appointments use to start getting checked in at 7:30 per their rules that you have to check in 30 to 15 minutes before the appointment time. I remember in the good old days when I would get there at 8 for my 8:30 there were very little people waiting because they had already been processed through.

I will be sending Sonia Valle the Ombudsman for Kern Valley an email to see if there is something that can be done about this, but I am but one of many.

When I was visiting last weekend, a gal had on flip flops...the flat foam kind you buy at Walmart or Old Navy for a couple of dollars. Of course the CO checking her in said she couldn't wear them...but she added on that the only kind of flip flops allowed are the kind that your foot slides down into. I'm assuming she meant wedges? I was under the impression that our shoes HAD to have something around the back of the heel. Am I missing something?

The CO sounds like she wasn't even clear with what's allowed. I'm sure when she said "slide into" she meant to say it has to have a strip in the back of your heel. Of course that's not at all what it sounds like she said though lol also for sure no foam like sandals even if it had a strip around your heal. I think you got it it's just that co that doesn't know how to explain.

I was under the impression that no matter what type of shoe you wear it has to have a back or heel strap. So many cute summer shoes out the window!

Hi all
My last visit was in January and I'll be going this weekend. Just wondering if there is anything new to know outside of staff changes and a sensitive metal detector.

Thanks!

Another VPASS email went out later in the day updating it to No Visits. First time I've actually gotten email specifically stating no visits. Anytime it says Modified Program it means lockdown or else it will state s o specifically like back in Feb that STG had no visits.

Hi ladies I have another clothing question. The last prison we were at, if you had on a sweater or cardigan that was attached to the shirt beneath, they didn't have a problem with it. Obviously you can't take your cardigan off if it's attached. Do you know if the same goes for Kern Valley? Thank you!

I'm not a big necklace person so I've never paid attention but I've always assumed the necklace you're permitted to wear in was a chain with one pendant. Has anyone worn a multi-strand necklace and it been ok? It's one necklace, but it's got three strands. I'm thinking no...

Typically about 2 weeks. He has to see his counselor first. Once he hits mainline he can get visits. Walk in appts start at 11am.

No problem with them here... I wear them all the time. They'll just ask you to try to take off or show them it's attached to make sure it is and its ok
