Does Good Time / Work Credit come off the front of his sentence or the back
I am checking to see if anybody know the answer to some questions for NJ State Prison. We have a date for full sentence and then a date for parole. So I will call the full sentence the back and date for parole the front.
Question 1- Work Time I believe you get 1 day off for every 4 days of work that you do for the NJ State Prison is that off the front number of the back number. So if someone work lets say 40 days while in prison that would mean he would get off 10 days from his full sentence back number or parole time.
Question 2-Good Time Days I believe you get 1 day for every week you are in prison or earn 1 day. Of course this is if you are a good prisoner. Is this off the back number or the front number.
Once this is answered I'm sure I will have more questions.
The parole eligibility date will not change. So, yes, those days taken off a sentence (Good Time, Work Credit, etc) come off the back, off the Max date.
And the only thing that comes off the parole date is time served before your sentence in county jail because they did take that off the parole time at sentencing.
I know this is a late response, but I am attaching a pdf for parole calculations and the handbook that walks you through this. As I understand it you have a max date (full sentence) then you have a flat parole eligibility date which is 1/3 of max. From there credits are subtracted (commutation, work, minimum security, and classes) and of course jail time credit. It used to be that you didn't earn commutation for jail time but that supposidly changed with the enactment of the "Earn your Way Out Act" earlier this year.
