Default When can you WU money to your account

I have to self-surrender on Sept 1 to FCI Bryan. On the inmate locator, I am shown as being in transit. Can I put money on my account before i show up at Bryan?

Some members have posted that they were able to deposit money as soon as they knew their bop inmate number, XXXXX-XXX. I would still wait much closer to your self surrender date.

You can also mail a US Postal money order to the lockbox in Des Moines, Iowa. Any other money orders are held for 15 days. That is the least expensive way to fund your account.

You can take cash in when you surrender and they will put it on your account. Hubby took $200 in and I sent some through Western Union. You can print out your commissary list and begin deciding on the things you will need to purchase. 1st commissary order is within first 2 days....

The money I had with me when I was locked up took almost 2 weeks to be posted to my account, so it was a great idea to send some money by WU too.

The lockbox is in Des Moines, Iowa, but it isn't listed on the bop web page as a "facility". Here's the only information I could find about it.

Send money by US Mail using a US postal money order

Federal Bureau of Prisons
Insert Valid Committed Inmate Name
Insert Inmate Eight-Digit Register Number
Post Office Box 474701
Des Moines, Iowa 50947-0001

Does it make sense then to do both just in case? ie: Walk in with say $100 and also send money WU or Moneygram a few days before self-surrendering. (I have read here that your account is set up a few weeks before surrender as long as you're on the BOP locator)

This way, even if something screwy happened, you'd know you'd get money in your account soon from one of the methods.

Yes, I agree to send money more than one way so you will have funds available when you can shop at the commissary or make phone calls. It will remain until you spend it.
