Default We Can Only Hope

Excellent article.

Let me start off by saying that I hope they do undertake this - it's about time. The last time it gained momentum I was still in jail and had a lot of hope - which got dashed.

But, the sad reality is that these very same arguments were brought up the last time a "good time bill" was proposed - it actually made it into a committee (This was after Rell signed a bill that allowed the state to do a study and then make a plan for good time reform). But, it got killed there. The problem is not a fiscal one - it's a political one. No incumbent (or potential) candidate wants to be called "soft on crime." So no matter what the statistics say, they won't do it - especially with an election next year.

'Course I'm a huge cynic on this stuff....

It depends on when he went in - it's calculated on time served and subject to a couple things (if he has taken programs, etc) - Also, some people are excluded based on the crime they were convicted of.

If you go to the CT DOC site look at the inmate locator, the release dates have been updated based on what they have already earned. For the balance use 60 days per year to deduct for each year remaining.
