He was worried he would not get the job because of that stupid little questions about background and the fact that they run a background check but he was truthful with them and they are willing to give him a chance. He had asked others that work for this company if they ever heard of them hiring a felon and he was told no so he had basically written if off so when that call came yesterday morning he was so excited.

Enchanted sorry to hear that the rules at the home are so out there. Maybe if he can keep a getting sent out on jobs he can move out of there and into some kind of share rental. I know it will probably be more money but it would make life a little easier for him.

And like Enchanted said the reason I keep posting about what is happening in the year and a half since C was released is because maybe I can help one of you gals know what can happen and that it can be overcome.
Thank you for posting you help me know what to expect when he gets out. It not easy road it seems but it will all work out.
I am so happy for C now he can feel good about his self.

Default have a great day EveryOne!

The good news: W has to go in for a second interview this weekend. They really liked him and that's a boost of confidence already!
Enchanted: I'm sorry to hear that halfway houses can be that bad . . . We are lucky that we don't have to deal with that! W has the regular parole restrictions, nothing else. We are lucky to have a good PO, he is a great person, really cares about helping people get back to their life.
Shaa: Congrats again to Curtis getting the job!!!!

Congrats on all the sucess stories! It is hard to find a job at all these days, especially as a felon. We need these sucess stories to keep our men motivated, both the ones out of prison and the ones who will soon be out, so keep them coming!

I believe fire campers can also apply with the government...afterall, that's who's training them, right?

Check avuecentral . com or usajobs. gov. There's lots of fire/forestry positions listed. You can also check for more resources from links listed on Cal-fire's site or any fire-related website. Being creative with your google search keywords helps also.

Hope that's useful to someone!

Default Have a smiley day!

Awesome news: W got the job we are so very happy. They chose him from quite a few applicants, and he's very proud.
We had a rough start this month (April 1st played evil with us), so he really needed some success!

As for applying for a gov't job. Local gov't (ie fire departments) will not hire a guy out of firecamp. The ones that do are like CalFire and agencies like that.

Default Firefighting career after firecamp?

My fiance is training to go to firecamp. When he has served his time will he be able to work as a firefighter when released. He thinks so, but I don't want him getting his hopes up. Any info would be great....

I just did a quick search and came up with this:
Firefighter requirements

It says this:
Prospective firefighters must be physically fit and possess excellent vision and hearing. In general, each applicant must submit to a medical examination performed by a doctor who has been approved by the fire department. Applicants need to have a clean driving record with a valid driver's license. They also need to have a clean criminal background check.

Thanks for the tips, he has 4 years to serve still. We are getting married within the next 2 months. I will check into how he will go about applying when he gets home. I just thought convicted felons couldn't find jobs like that.

Some of the guys when they get out of camp will apply with CalFire and get hired. They can ask their captains for a letter of recomendation before they are released and I have never heard of any one being denied the letter. Also keep all the certificates that they get while training that will help when they submit thier apps.

The above post is correct city and county fire agencies will not hire anyone with a felony on their record even if they were in fire camp.
