Default Please explain: Early Release? Good Behavior? Parole?

My bf was sentenced today and was cuffed and taken away immediately. It's the worst day in my life, I wish I could be dead than see him being taken away. He got 1 yr, temporarily in Bridgeport. His attorney and some of the guards working in the court told me that he would be out in 6 months. They said something about serving 50% of the term. I also heard so much about early release based on good behavior. But I can't seem to find any information online explaining if such thing even exist in CT prison and how can inmates be qualified for it. Also, what exactly is Parole? Who can apply for parole and how does this work. I'm just so confused right now coz so many people tell me that he would be out in 6 months when his sentence is in fact 1 yr. Can someone please explain? I'd appreciate your help! Good luck to all of you and your loved ones! God Bless!

Welcome to PTO... In most states they get so many days for "good behavior". In Colo it is 10 or 15 days a month. What parole is, is what they are on when they get out of prison. It is like a probation officer. He will have to reoport to them, do ua's and what ever else the PO requires. If CT does have the good time really the time will go by fast. I wish you the best of luck keep your chin up.

digitze... usually an early release is based upon good behavior while the inmate is incarcerated. If he gets no writeups, ect. he would be given a certain amount of 'good time' which in turn lowers his sentence. If he was sentenced to a yr. he could very well do only a few months, "IF" he keeps himself out of trouble. As oceanmoon explained, Parole is when the inmate serves a part of his time inside & is then released into society to do the remaining time of his sentence on 'paper'. He would report to a parole officer & be bound by certain rules & regulations, in which if he were to fail any of the requirements, he is then sent back on a parole violation to serve out the remaining of his sentence.
Good Luck & i hope you have a better understanding of the system.
It WILL be over soon! Just keep the faith.

I think a lot depends on the warden also. My BF got 6 months and was supposed to be released on 3/22, but it was denied by the warden, yet he has no outstanding warrents, paid his fine and has been in no trouble. He is not there for any kind of violent crime either. Then the counselors tell him 3 weeks ago they think they made a mistake and went 1 step over the warden to get his release! Any way we still have not heard anything and they did not even tell him why his release was denied.

Thank so much Oceanmoon and Rainbozz! Katiemeno, i'm so sorry to hear that your BF got denied. I hope all will work out for him. His mom actually got a call today from the correction center. A lady counselor (I assumed) told his mom, his sentence is 1 yr, but he'll serve 6 months. She wants to know if his mom will let him live with her. And someone from community center will come and inspect the house at some point. Does this mean he'll be out on parole after 6 months? Or they're just pumping his hope high, then deny his parole request when time comes?

Thanks all for the support, your response meant so much to me! It's tough, but i guess it will be over soon...

That is a TS, they called me the same way. Only to be disappointed and find out it was denied. They called me because I was to sponser him. They come to inspect the house to see if there are any weapons lurking about.

There is no good time in CT. No early release. If the offense is considered violent, does not have to be violent, he'll have to do 85% of time before being able to parole. Non-violent = 50% of sentence before parole. Once parole is granted, he can spend months still in prison before being actually released.

You should go to your regional area (AZ) with forums specific to Arizona correctional systems. You'll find more info than just in the general forums.
