Default Question about monitors

Okay I have a quick question. My sons original out date was jan 2021 they changed it to july of 2020 and i am assuming it is because of the covid19 but they are not talking about sending him home on a monitor. Does anyone know anything about this monitor. do you need to have a land line phone in order to do this. I am told they will have no movement when they are on it cant work or do anything but stay in the house. is this true. My next question is if he chooses to not go home on the monitor will he still get paroled in july without it or will it go back to his original out date I am confused by this.

Hi there - my son is in Illinois also. So much of this is still up in the air from what I understand. I do think though that even if you are on a monitor, you can go to work, school, etc., just have to call a number prior to any movement.

My son's outdate is Feb 2021 but because he was sentenced under truth in sentencing guidelines, he won't get out earlier (darn it).

Best wishes.

No, you don't need a landline. He should be able to go outside but, as the previous user said, will have to call a parole hotline number before leaving home. It's likely he will have restricted movement meaning that he will be allowed to leave/return home during specific hours.
I don't know the answer to your second question. I think it depends on his sentence, parole stipulations, etc

Actually in certain counties you do need a land line. There was a bill passed for them to receive a minimum amount of movement 4 hours per day. If they go home on EM furlough becuz of COVID there is no movement. There is another bill HB1115 in the senate to eliminate EM altogether for those who have served their sentence and wouldnt otherwise be required to have it (sex offenders). When he receives his parole stipulations you will know if EM is part of his parole plan. If it is they will come do a home visit versus just a phone interview to approve his parole site.

JISMOM,
My response is based on him being paroled in July and not furloughed due to medical conditions. IDOC is currently screening and releasing inmates to Electronic Home Detention which is different for parole. In these cases movement is restricted heavily and a landline will be required.
If he is ordered by the PRB for electronic monitoring, he will be on lockdown at the host site until seen by an agent and a tech completes the equipment installation. After that he will be granted 12 hours a day / 7 days a week for movement. Something like 7am-7pm 7 days a week is common. If he locates employment and needs to adjust the hours the agent will assist him. On parole if you live in area with good cellular reception then a cellular electronic monitoring unit can be installed negating the landline. However the parolee will need access to a personal cellular phone. Take Care Chris
